I just ordered a 25 GT WITHOUT the performance upgrade, so is the performance upgrade available post purchase, or is there actual hardware differences? I am 73 years old, and my future nursing home staff says I probably shouldn't have all that torque and HP, but what if I change my mind?

Yes, you can purchase the performance upgrade at a later time. There was a post a few months back on this subject on how to buy it.

Good luck and I am looking forward to hearing about your car’s arrival!

Will you even remember? Seriously I rarely get 5 seconds seconds out of mine so not an issue. But even at 68 I might find that extra performance beneficial on a California freeway. Enjoy the ride!

With the additional torque, my drool bucket may find itself in the back seat upon full acceleration.

I also ordered without performance upgrade, but yes you can still add it later through the app.

0-60 in 3.8 is more than fast enough for me. I already drive way too fast and don’t need any more help in getting into trouble.

My leash sometimes ends up in the back. The human is usually too busy holding on. ??

I like the idea of ordering it later. Gives you something to look forward to.

But definitely get it later. Who wants to be slower?

@dimes4slim as someone who drove the vehicle pre- and post-upgrade very recently, I can tell you it’s like driving a different car altogether.

No one listens to nurses. Get the upgrade.

Seeing as I came from a 2021 GT-PE, I had to get a 2024 GT with the stinky option (the PU) from the factory. ??

2024 without the performance upgrade, don't need it, don't want the range hit. It's right there in Fordpass to tempt me, though.

Insurance question. When a 24-25 GT is insured, does the VIN indicate whether or not it has the performance upgrade?….or does the insurer verbally inquire at the inception of the policy?…..or does the insurer just not care?

There is no range hit with the performance upgrade.

The VIN does not indicate the performance upgrade even if it came from the factory with it. My insurer never asked about it nor do I think they even know about it. Only wanted the VIN and miles and I didn't offer any more information.

Why would there be a range hit unless you floor it?

A software update to increase max power shouldn’t affect your part throttle and cruise efficiency. It’s not like they cram more electrons in your motor at cruise.

Push the button! You know you want to. ;)

It’s interesting Ford can figure out how to enable this upgrade post sale within a short timeframe of purchasing the upgrade. But can’t figure out how to push reliable OTA’s to the fleet. Maybe they’d be better off just targeting groups of vin’s rather than waiting for the car to call in. (The above is off topic and just a thought I had)

As for the upgrade I’d say after you’ve gotten used to the car and feel the need for more it’s totally worth it. 99% of my driving hasn’t needed more power. But that couple times I just wanted to shut down some <dodge/370z/Q50/5.0/EB/ss/wrx/brz/lmnopo> at a light, it woulda put a bigger smile on my face.
