First off there is a quality issue with your post. I assume you meant Not and not Mot. I live in Alaska where they drop quite a few rocks on the road on purpose for half of the year and I have two chips so far. It does seem like the hood can chip somewhat easily but it seems you have experienced more than normal.

Did you read the post. 20 years of driving no chips. 6 months of driving several chips. That's poor build quality. Or do you think paint isn't a quality of the build???
I read it, did you read mine? Perhaps you got bombarded by a bunch of pea gravel all at once, idk. No paint is surviving that. Just because that never happened to the Camry doesn’t mean it has superior paint quality. Paint chips suck, I get it, but paint isn’t impervious to chips, so citing the 12 chips you have as a quality issue is dubious.

Go get two handfuls of pea gravel, throw one as hard as you can at your MME and the other at your Camry. Post results here.

Most of the folks on this forum put PPF and/or ceramic coating on their MMEs. Big difference - will protect paint from that sort of damage. They will have no sympathy.

I did the 1/3 PPF and sure enough got a chip further up the hood. One bad one on the windscreen too. My 2026 GTPE will have full PPF you better believe it!

Sell the car, buy another Camry.

Life is too short to go driving around with thin skin….. I mean paint.

Agree. So why didn't ford put the same coating on our 60k cars.? That's my point. If they are truly concerned about build quality make a quality product!
You know, given how inexpensive and effective the ceramic coating has proven to be, I do wonder why they don't just ship all cars with it. I suppose when you are trying to cut costs and speed up production....

My MME has many firsts: 1st new car in 30 years. 1st BEV. 1st car over $50K and 1st car with a tri-coat paint job (and a beautiful one at that). That all adds up to me sure as hell getting at least ceramic coating, which I did before driving off the lot. Depending on finances, I might even shell out the ~$2K for PPF this year. At least on the front.

Have less than 5k miles on my premium and and have over 10 chips on the hood. My wife's 2002 toyota Camry with over 20 years of driving has none. For a 60K car you would think ford could beat the build quality of toyota. Shame on you ford.
Sounds like your wife doesn't tailgate people?

Anecdotally, my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid has a tricoat paint job and did seem more resistant to chips. My grabber blue chips and scrapes easy - both the front and back bumpers. Picked up a few chips on the front bumper just on drive home from dealership (a 500mi drive home LOL). I don’t know if the paint is just thinner nowadays or what, but damn.

I’ve said this many times before, but at least a partial PPF on the front end is essential with the MME. The thing collects chips.

And ā€œceramic coatingā€ doesn’t prevent chips. It makes cleaning the car a bit easier and that’s about it. I had a professional coating applied for about $1,000 shortly after purchase and I can’t say it did a whole lot.

Bottom line, the OP isn’t crazy. There’s more to this story than just bad luck.

Man you think Ford’s paint is bad. My Tesla model 3 paint started peeling off during an automatic touchless carwash.

After that I got PPF on the front of my Mach E. Even my previous Nissan pathfinder had tons of chips on the hood. It’s the sand they put down on the roads here in the winter. If you get behind a semi they pelt you with sand for miles.

Many reasons I'm sure. Benefits aren't proven over a good wax job. Required maintenance, reapplication, special soap. I'm glad they don't apply ceramic or any other sealer. My vehicles look great with Collinite 845.

Agree on the ceramic coating. Mostly marketing. Cost is a scam.
