Has anyone had this happen? I come home with 150 miles available to drive. I leave a few minutes later and it displays only 40 miles available. This happened to me now five times in the last six months. Went to the mall one time with 150 miles available and when I got to my car 30 minutes later to drive back home, I only had 28 miles left. Took it to the dealer and they told me that I have to leave it there for a week for diagnostics. I couldn’t do that, but it happened four more times after that. every day when I drive the car, I just hold my breath and hope it doesn’t happen again until hopefully there’s an error code or something.

Let me add to that that it will still display for example 65% charge but only 49 miles available when only minutes before it showed 65% charge with 156 miles available.

Where do you live? Has it been cold lately? Is your garage heated?
The symptoms fit a scenario where you are leaving nice warm environment and driving into the Arctic. Which (As many many threads will show) is quite a common theme. Cold weather range reduction.

As long as the battery percentage remains the same it’s fine. Remember the GOM is just that, a guess, not your actual range.

I live in Florida. There has been no change in temperature when this happened August September October. Also the only thing I noticed a couple of times it was raining.

So when it says 25 miles and 40% it’s really like 90 miles

It depends. It’s not a 1:1 relationship. It will vary depending on the ambient temperature, driving style, driving speed and wind speeds. Range changes depending on the circumstances and your driving history.

Does the GOM revise its range after you start a drive? Does the SoC drop precipitously during your drive to match the abysmal range on the GOM? Something is obviously affecting the GOM calculations/display, so just trying to see the behaviour of other metrics.

What is your average mikes per kWh? You may be able to find that on the trip app if you don’t know. A bit of basic multiplication will give you a very rough idea of how much range you have during average conditions.

Has the car used a greater percentage of charge over a known distance recently? Like to and from work?

You can’t reset the GOM if needed but that is basically only cosmetic. You’re just eliminating an erroneous reading is all by doing that.

No, it stays the same way. Nothing adjust until the charge at home is complete and it takes just as much time to fully recharge as if I had actually started at 40 miles. When the charge is full, it will say 90% charged 220 miles. at that moment, it behaves like nothing ever happened for maybe a month.

I am still baffled as heck as to why the Guess-O-Meter is in a larger type face than the fuel level gauge. It seems to indicate that the estimate is more important than the hard data. I consciously ignore the GOM and only rely on the battery SoC display. The GOM really should be an option that we can turn off. It’s never been useful in gas cars and it’s less useful in a BEV. ??

I would think it's likely you have a battery module issue. Ideally, you'd get a picture with the higher number too and then the lower number right after.
