I wonder if the 480 hp of the Mach-e GT will also increase its towing capacity, like for instance 1600 kg as the Id.4, Model 3/Y and Ioniq5 have. I know it’s not the main concern of Mach-e GT buyers but still...

I kinda doubt that Ford will allow North American drivers to tow much if anything with the MME.

I had a stickshift Jetta TDI, which was rated for around 3500lbs in Europe, but only 1000 in the USA. Same car, just different standards of abuse apparently.

Reviving this thread because I'm about to sign the contract on a 2018 Model 3 Performance from Vroom. It only has 14K miles and looks to be in great condition. Just under $40K, still under warranty for 18 months. It was one of the last Performance 3s to be sold without the $5K Performance Package, so it has the power, but is stealthy from the outside.

I'll hang on to my GT reservation until I know I'm happy with the Tesla, just in case. Wish me luck :)

You would of wished you had just waited for the Mach E! No worries though, can always sell it.

For the deal I got, I think I will be fine. Worst case I lose the 1500 in tax. Best case, I love the car :)

Once they arrive, I'd like to meet up with an Atlanta-area GT owner and go for a ride, maybe swap for a few miles.

The MME is a larger heavier vehicle. Even if it had the same 0-60 MPH times, which it doesn't, it's not going to handle like a smaller sedan.

I'm also looking to sell my Tesla Model 3 LR RWD and come back to the family. My first car was a Ford Escort ZX2, then an Escort ZX2 s/r, Focus ST and finally Focus RS. I traded the RS for the Model 3. There is nothing wrong with my Model 3, however I do prefer the hatchback and hate the look of the Model Y.

Only thing keeping me from making the jump is the dealer gouging in Southern California and the issues with charging the Mach-E.

Any other Model 3 owners make the jump and now regret it? Or are you happy?

That’s exactly the car I have except for having 18” wheels. The acceleration is unreal.

Good strategy... depreciation is flattening out quite a bit at that price and mileage. So if you find that you are needing more space or for whatever reason still want the GT after a while with the Model 3, it wouldn’t be too painful to your wallet. You’ll also see how the early model kinks are shaking out and how the OTA software features develop for GT in the meantime.

You have the great advantage of a having that reservation in pocket.

How long can you hold it before committing the order? Will the reservation expire at some point if you say want to wait 3-4 months after invited to place the order?

Congrats!

Have you taken delivery yet? Just wondering on your thoughts of the car.

Stay away from Tesla's. The build quality, service woes, and overall customer service level is not nearly up to standard as other automakers. There is a reason those vehicles are so cheap and are being sold only 1 year old. The guy who bought my Tesla that was only a year old probably thought I was a dummy for selling it. Little do people know how bad owning their vehicles are.

The Mach E's problems I've seen so far pale in comparison to the issues with Tesla. Buy a reliable car and just stick with the Mach E. 0.3s 0-60 time difference just isn't worth it and plus you're getting an SUV and not a car.
My model Y had a piece of trim fall down in the trunk and the AC stopped working. Both issues needed to be taken care of by the dealer and I was given a loaner for a week. My MME has a software glitch almost every week that requires me to reboot the screen. Bluetooth often drops for no reason and my apple car play often freezes up or stops working. In a way, you could argue that the MME's software glitches are worse because there is no real fix for them. The first over the air update fixed the "phone as a key" issues I was having but they need a lot more work IMO

I owned a Tesla, went through the pains of day to day ownership. When I posted on those exact forums, I was laughed off and actually banned. Most of those forums actually ban users if you make an account and immediately post a credible bad experience, because they are typically liberal leaning people and when you say something they don't agree with they want you shadow banned. I was actually an active user posting my experience over the year I owned it, and ended up getting banned.

I know someone who owns a Tesla and says the same thing. Their support is awful. The car has serious flaws.

To each their own, heed my warning! I learned the hard way.
How long did you own your tesla? I had a model S for 150,000 miles. The first 50K were pretty eventful, with lots of issues, to be honest. But they were all taken care of under warranty and they even goodwilled a few things outside of warranty that they didn't have to. From 50,000 miles the next 100,000 miles were pretty uneventful. Here are some things that impressed me. At 8 years of age, the car still looked and felt new, despite iffy fit and finish. It's weird....if I had to describe some of the interior materials, I would call them "chintzy but durable" and the batteries held up, despite lots of road trips and fast charging. My experience was sort of the opposite of what you'd expect with all my issues happening in the beginning and once they were sorted the car was excellent. Usually it's the opposite...as the car ages things get worse

And you are right about them being a bunch of cult-like left wing douches. That's the worst part of the ownership experiences. I remember when I said I thought global warming/climate change/whatever it's called this week was overblown. Oh man did I piss on a hornet's nest!

I owned my M3 for 30,000 miles and that was all I could take. Ford isn't known for their outstanding quality either, but comparatively there is quite a difference and improvement of QC with ford.

I think you raise very valid points and to add to your experience - you were very lucky in dealing with what appears to be a Service Center that had good employees and resources. The service center experience out of Raleigh was just bad. My service center never goodwilled any issue and I had to pester them until I just gave up. I could get into specifics but that's another story.
