Technically it should cost around $0 for someone to crack the code.If such a thing were possible $25k - $50K is nowhere near enough. The hours/engineering talent required to do such a thing I would estimate to be around $200k - $300k.
Just like when someone cracked the Tesla code to update power, just need a nerd, a computer and some time.
Whether that time is worth $50k or $200k would be up to that nerd.
That said, the aftermarket tuning companies that do tunes for ICE vehicles need to figure it out in the next few years or go out of business.
