I have a 2023 Mach-E, the Level 2 home charger works fine with my Mach-E, however, I just also leased 2 Vinfast cars, and both cars trip my 50amp breaker every time. my electrician says that my Ford Brand, level 2 charger, is simply not compatible with the Vinfast cars, even when I turn the amperage down to 20 in the Vinfast. Every Vinfast chat group I've been on, non one has mentioned that any after-market charger gives them a problem. I'm trying to avoid purchasing a separate Level 2 and paying to have an electrician install again.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

By "Level 2 home charger," do you mean the little Ford Mobile Charger (FMC) that either came with the car (2021-2023 models) or was a $500 option (2023-1/3 and later models)? Do you mean the Ford Connected Charge Station (FCCS)? Do you mean the Ford Charge Station Pro (FCSP)? ??

The FMC draws 32A maximum and should not pop your 50A breaker unless there's a problem somewhere. The problems they have are usually in the opposite direction, either throttling the charge or cutting out completely. If the Vinfast is blowing the breaker on the FMC, there is something really funky going on that needs to be addressed. ??

The FCCS can draw up to 48A. This is safe only when the unit is hard-wired on a 60A circuit. If it is connected through a plug, the highest it should be set to in order to be safe is 40A on a 50A circuit or 32A on a 40A circuit. Please double-check that the charger is set up correctly for your install. I don't know what the Vinfast cars draw, but if they try to draw 48A or more the circuit will be over-loaded if not limited by the EVSE. ?‍♂?

The FCSP can draw up to 80A when charging an F150 Lightning. It needs a pair of 50A circuits, so I think that is probably not what you have. ??

thank you for your detailed response, the Level 2 Ford Charger cost around $800 (Ford Connected Charge Station I think - pictures attached) - My electrician keeps saying that the Vinfast is not compatible with the Ford charger , I have a hard time believing this as every vinfast forum I have been on, no one has any issue with any Level 2 charger they use.

Aren’t the amps heading to the car set by the level 2 charger? For instance, the Ford Mobile is set to always pull 32 amps. My ChargePoint Flex can be set anywhere from a high of 48 (max for a hard-wired unit on a 60 amp breaker) down to 8 amps. The MME just takes whatever the charger pulls from the wall. I wouldn’t think that the car could tell the charger to pull more than it is set for.

In the Vinfast, you can choose what amperage you want/it was pre set at around 47 or 48, I changed it all the way to 20, it still blows the circuit.

In all cases, the car determines the charge current. The EVSE simply tells the car the max allowable charge rate. The car should never exceed that. You problem is clearly with the car.

J1772 is an industry standard. Any J1772 charger should charge any J1772 vehicle. So yes the Ford Connected Charge Station should be able to charge a VinFast without issue. Your electrician is wrong about that.

Can you go into the Ford app and verify the maximum amperage you can set the charger to is 40 amps? (For a 50A breaker.) If you can set it higher than that, the electrician configured it wrong and the rotary switches inside the charger need to be set to 40A correctly according to the instructions.

If the breaker is tripping with the VinFast but not the Mach-E, I think there's a problem with the VinFast. I'm going to guess you have a GFCI breaker and there is some kind of wiring fault inside the VinFast triggering it.
