Hi everyone,

I’d like to get some recommendations for future maintenance on my 2024 Mach-E Select RWD.

I recently took it to Tasca Ford in Yonkers, NY, but I feel they were quoting me a pretty high price for “cleaning” the 12V battery terminals — $150+ — and another $150+ to replace the cabin air filter. I asked them not to do either of those services.

I only requested the basic service: tire rotation, alignment, balancing, and a general inspection, and even then, the total cost was around $380. I still feel that was quite expensive for what was done.

For now, I’m going to look for a cabin air filter and replace it myself.

I would really appreciate your recommendations for future maintenance, especially from other Mach-E owners in the Yonkers/Westchester area.

Would you recommend a different Ford dealer or a specific shop for Mach-E service? Also, what services do you recommend having done at the dealer, and which ones are better or easier to do yourself?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice!

Best regards,
Milthon

You might want to open your manual (PDF download, online, in Ford app) and read it. It clearly lays out the maintenance.

You got RIPPED off by paying for an alignment. Not specified, not necessary unless your tires were wearing unevenly.

You properly said no to the 12v terminal cleaning, a blatant attempt to rob you. Cabin air filter is about $25 online and takes 5 minutes max.

Hi, yes, you’re right. I just haven’t been able to find the exact maintenance interval in the owner’s manual. What I understand is that it’s every 10,000 miles or once a year, but I’m not sure exactly what is included in each maintenance service.

In the Ford app, they do recommend tire rotation, but they don’t necessarily recommend wheel alignment and balancing as part of the regular maintenance.

Regarding the price I paid, I did complain to the service advisor, and I also mentioned in the service survey that I felt the price was very high for just the tire rotation, alignment, and balancing. I also complained about the additional services they quoted me for.

Could someone please share the section of the owner’s manual that explains the recommended maintenance schedule and what is included in each service?

Thank you!

Always remember that dealerships are going to charge you way more for services. $100 - $125 for an alignment is common. Like others have said, you can get a cabin filter for cheap. At 30,000, looks like brake fluid needs to be changed, that will be around $150 - $250.

So, can the majority of 20k items be done at home?
  • Rotation- if equipped at home, sure.
  • Inspect half-shaft boots.: probably not.
  • Inspect cooling system level and strength: probably not.
  • Inspect steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, drive shaft and U-joints. Lubricate if equipped with grease fittings: nope, not at home.
  • Replace cabin air filter, if equipped: for sure at home.

Thank you for your comments & for the link!!.
Any suggestions or Dealer recommendations for the 30,000 or 3 years
service?
You can post a request in the NY or north east section of the forum to ask for dealer recommendations.

You can easily change cabin filter and actually buy the premium version of the filter (I do it on eBay). Just be careful not to break the plastic retaining tabs (so do it when temps are high)

Is there a cabin air filter that anyone would recommend. Or just stay with OEM?

Interesting thread. One of the benefits of owning an EV that often gets advertised is the reduction in maintenance costs. As our Mach E approaches 20k miles in only 10 months, it is real fo me. Had I bought an ICE Ford, I’d be getting ready for my 4th oil change. I can fully understand now why dealerships that count on service revenue from new car sales would be happier to sell me an ICE vehicle instead of an EV. As for the rest of the recommended maintenance, I have the capability to rotate tires in my garage and bought a set of snow tires to mount on a set of OEM rims. This gives me a built in reminder to do a seasonal rotation of the stock tires and the new snows and carefully inspect the wear. This also avoids having to watch like a hawk that the dealership has assigned a tech that knows the proper lifting points on the Mach E. I do plan to change the air cabin filter myself based on how it looks since that frequency should be higher driving on dusty roads we have around here. I appreciate the advice here on replacement filters and watching the plastic tabs. As to the rest of the inspection list a few posts up, I’m a bit of a skeptic these actually get done when using a dealership “fast lube” service that encourages speed versus thoroughness so will see what I can do myself. Brake pad and fluid change I am thinking is also something I’ll consider doing myself depending if it requires some special procedure or tools. I’m expecting frequency of pad change to be longer than a typical ICE vehicle as I primarily use regenerative braking. Brake fluid though I would expect needs to be changed on the same frequency as any ICE car as water absorption and corrosion should be the same concerns. Battery coolant though I would expect should have a much longer life in a EV versus an ICE engine coolant but that’s a new to me and to be seen.
