Just bought a used 2021 mach e premium with 15000 miles on it.

I've tried fixing this on my own; the user in this thread had the same issues I do:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/app-drawer-issue.17046/

No control tab, no blue cruise, camera through a peephole on huge screen (only 4 inches wide), can't change modes or turn off one pedal driving if needed.

Bought this car used 3 weeks ago and immediately knew something was off. Took to my local Ford dealer (Klaben); they were friendly but had to schedule me two weeks out to get it looked at since they only have one guy who works with the mach e's.

They went over it and are updating my imaging module and one other module. Been here for 7 hours now. Not upset with them at all, but they said if they updated all the modules showing a need for updates it works take a week. Should I be concerned with this?

Yeah the Job1's really got hosed. I managed to get all my stuff updated as the prior owners didn't bother to do anything with it other than take out the radar sensor in the bumper via road debris. So I had 2 years of issues to catch up on. (while there have them look at the front half shafts, they'll need replaced if they havn't been already.)

The updates shouldn't take a week but they like to sit around and look at the pony emblem for a day then maybe update another module. The run around I got was the dealer doesn't like to update modules. 'Fix this one this one breaks, fix that, the first one breaks.' Which is a poor excuse but totally plausible.FDRS (Ford laptop update software) can push all thing way faster than a week. The takes a week story is when they just leave it plugged in and hope something software wise falls from the gardens above. There was a APIM replacement that might also be in your cards.

What's your VIN?

Are they going to enable BlueCruise? They are getting paid to do that.

Sounds like by my Vin customer support says I'm eligible. They would be updating using the laptop method and not just sitting waiting for the car over WiFi, right?

PM @Mike G your VIN and he can look up what your car is currently short on. Or ask him over on the FDRS thread for some help. ??

Hi Mike. This is my Vin 3FMTK3RM2MMA38472
18 Jun '21 build date, Job 1 car.

Here's the list of available software updates:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Missing functions on recently bought mach e. 3FMTK3RM2MMA38472-27-Jun-23

I'm not really sure what they're up to right now.

I see in the session log that they've expressed an interest in three of the modules involved in cruise control (CMR, CCM, and IPMA) but no actual programming of any updates has taken place. As you can see by the log below:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Missing functions on recently bought mach e. 3FMTK3RM2MMA38472-27-Jun-23Work

Any lines in the session log prefaced by the term "PTS:" is the tech or a service advisor looking up procedures or information in the companion system to FDRS which is PTS. In normal circumstances when a module is updated that item in the line sequence becomes a hyperlink that when selected expands to show the dialog text and the techs responses to each dialog choice. No updates have so far been attempted that I can see. If you take note of the lines for the CMR, CCM and IPMA and look at the timestamps they all start and end in the same minute. Which means if the tech selected them...he or she then backed out before actually doing anything.

Let us know what the outcome is.

Well, Hertz just picked me up. Not the sign I was hoping for. Tech advised me the 12v wasn't holding the charge so none of the updates would go through? I charged the main battery up for today... Figures the other one would get me. The fact that they gave me a rental makes me think it's not a quick fix.

Lol, they have to connect a power supply to do updates. Battery shouldn't be going dead unless they're doing things wrong.

The actual battery when I pulled in was at about 90%. I normally only charge to 80 but I figured it may be under some distress. They said the 12v isn't holding its charge.

Apple and Orange.

You could have shown up with a 30%HV battery charge as far as that goes.

It's the state-of-charge of the 12V battery that should be at least 80% when doing programming and should be maintained that way by a tech hooking up a powersupply (different than a battery charger) and running that for the duration of all programming events.

They use a a Ford (Rotunda) version of something like this:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Missing functions on recently bought mach e. Frunk_Charge_Setu

Techs really, really, (really) do not like having to take the left side and back cover panels off the car to get to the jump points to connect up their powersupply. So a lot of them try to cheat and not use a powersupply at all, and then have programming failures when the little 12V battery drops to around 10.0 volts during the programming run. ....and all they had to do was follow instructions.....and use a powersupply.

So I'd like to ask about the procedure but I don't want to come off as a jerk. But I also don't want to use this rental.

Your dealer has no idea what they are doing... the car has to be on a power supply for updates... the FDRS tool tells you this and the tech should know this.

You have a long list, but it's baby sitting and clicking a few buttons while the updates are done. If I did an over/under bet it could be 8 hours... but not a week.

The question is ... so, the 12v battery is not holding a charge during programming... I understand that the procedure calls for a power supply, what Power supply did you use? Could you try it with that please?

They will either admit to not using one and promise to do it going forward, or they will lie saying it is not needed... in which case you have some difficult options...

  • Buy the tech some donuts and suggest they try it with the power supply
  • escalate inside the dealership
  • escalate within Ford
  • Go to another dealer
  • Find another owner with FDRS willing to invest a day doing the updates
  • Do the updates yourself with FDRS ($500 for the PS, $500 for the dongle, $50 for the memory stick (depending on the module) and $50 for a two day FDRS license.)
