Maybe we have enough EV’s on the road we are getting close to not having to put them all in one category any more. The Blazer would be competition for the Explorer would it not? Well, if Ford had an E-Explorer. This is just not the same class as MME. I had an Explorer before my MME and settled for the size difference because I wanted an EV.

This should be a “Hey Ford, when you bringing out the E-Explorer?” thread.
The Lyric has pretty much the same cargo space as a Mach-E despite being 10” longer (actually a little less and no frunk). The Blazer seems to be about the same from the interior pics I’ve seen. So it’s definitely a Mach-E class competitor, not Explorer.

Looking at the reported dimensions, the Blazer EV does look like the lower cost version of the Lyriq.

The 2024 Blazer’s marketing specs seem at most, incrementally better than a 2021 MME. The acceleration, range, and charging speeds are all just a slight one-up on the Mach-E.

The charging speed claims are interesting for how underwhelming they are. GM says it’ll recharge up to 78 miles in ten minutes on 190kW which is not jaw-droppingly superior to Ford’s 61 miles per ten minutes on the MME ER RWD on 150kW.

I totally get it if someone wants the Blazer over the MME for the styling, utility, or even the performance. I’m just not seeing that the Blazer is a generational leap forward in terms of technology.

There's one thing that we know for sure:

There will be multiple models from all of the major and minor makers in the coming years.

Stop drooling and enjoy the one ya got, 'cuz you can't got 'em all.

Cam-E-ro.

Should be nice competition. 557 hp 664 tq were in the fine print. It must weigh more than we do or be geared for a higher top speed though if “under 4 seconds“ is the 0-60. That usually will mean 3.9.

Crazy times when a crossover/SUV does 0-60 under 4 and my first thought is disappointment it isn’t faster.

We're going to have 10s or 100s of choices for EVs in the next few years.
And anything we buy today will be older (not obsolete) tech in 6 months.
Or, the economy will crash hard, EVs will be an expensive luxury, and the EV market will stall.

?The times, they are a changin?

The Blazer won't come out for at least another year. And given the delays they're having with the Lyriq, you likely won't see the Blazer until the end of 2023. By then the MME could be entering a mid cycle refresh.
The new Ultium battery factory opens in August, the current Hummer and Lyric batteries are built on a small pilot line, with cells coming from Korea. GM will be stepping up production the second half of this year, battery production has been a limiting factor so far.

Has some nice features over the Mach E (like ventilated seats, slightly faster charging, sun roof) but I'm just not digging the look of it. I think the Mach E looks a lot better. This looks like most other EV's like the EV6, ID4, Bolt, etc. They try to make them futuristic looking and just come out looking a little weird. The Mach E looks sleek and sporty and not too futuristic.

Plus I get to drive my Mach E right now and not wait 2 more years.

My first impression is that GM has done a good job announcing EV's, but not a very good job of getting them out there. Besides the Bolt (which it appears they are going to let wither), there's only a handful of Hummers and Lyriqs out there, this won't really be out there until the end of next year(?) and I haven't seen any details on the Equinox.

How long until the charge port doors break off supporting a 350kw DCFC cable? Seriously, this obsession to have hidden charge port covers with slick movements is just stupid - how resilient are the mechanisms over the life of the car?

Charge ports opening is an opportunity for futuristic drama, and I think we should expect most OEMs to adopt something more interesting than the gas flap we see on our cars for models that they want to seem premium...

The Blazer looks more like an ID4 than a Mach E to me
That's what I thought too. Like a more aggressive ID.4

Any time a manufacturer shows me a release date, I have to laugh. Toyota has shut down the bz4x/Solterra production for all of August (already shutdown for July):

Ariya was supposed to be delivered in the spring... but only token deliveries have happened in Japan.
