If you ever charged at a tesla supercharger you will know the cables are ridic short, no way it will fit in a non tesla unless you park sideways and block 3 spots. Me thinks they need to develop special chargers not just adapters for non teslas which they were already doing.

Am I alone in the thought that the Magic Dock is Dead? Why have we not seen this expanded since the original installations (NY & CA)?

I think once Musk started negotiations with Ford he saw the writing on the wall and figured why spend all that cash converting SC with Magic Docks when I can have the whole country convert to NACS (hence the name change last year). Guys, Musk is smarter than most and likes business success. Unless Biden FORCES him to continue Magic Dock; those handful of stations may just end up being noveltys. As we've seen Musk does not mind waiting. His timelines always seem "flexible" but to his credit; usually get done.

Shouldn't need 3 spots, but often 2 parking diagonally. There's lot of videos of MMEs and Lightnings even reaching straight in by parking extremely close, but that's kind of irrelevant (unless lucky enough to find the far right end available) because anything in the middle still has the "wrong side" problem that blocks 2 Tesla spots anyway. So might as well just park diagonally across 2.

Some stations have less uniform layouts though, with access on the ends, or sometimes a lone charger off to the side. Or even a pull-thru design. Hit & miss.

Yep, that's my thought too. I'm guessing MD will get shelved now.

Join the lineup at Pearl Ridge Mall. ;)
I have only ever been to Maui but I could never see myself needing to charge other than at home if I lived in Hawaii. I certainly would have jumped on the solar bandwagon early on; although, I know that did become and may still be problematic.

There are an awful lot of homes in Hawaii that are on very low amp service with no realistic ability to upgrade service as it would require upgrades to the electrical infrastructure to the neighborhood. Plus there are a lot of condos and multi family dwellings with all the associated problems. That means charging away from home for many. The advantage is that, other than Hawaii Island, distances are pretty small.

The sole SuperCharger in the state has lines for it pretty much constantly during weekends and peak business hours I’m told. There are zero plans for another station and this one can’t really be expanded.

50th state problems. ??️

All the Walmart's on Oahu are getting Electrify America superchargers!
https://electrek.co/2023/03/15/electrify-america-hawaii/
Supercharger is a Tesla trademark. The Walmarts are getting ea DCFC charging stations. 4 units in each. BTW, none of those are anywhere near where they showed the single station on their national plan. Now we know why they never pulled the building permit for their quasi downtown site.

Those Walmart locations will be the extent of their expansion to Hawaii. Last I heard, EA declined to be involved with any of the 7 stations being built under the NEVI rules and funding on Hawaii Island. That means they declined to put a station in Hilo, Hawaii’s second largest city.

I actually think that not having EA involved with this island’s DCFC station is a good thing. I believe we’re more likely to see dual head NCAS-CCS units if someone other than a forced investment crashed company is involved. Just my opinion though.

This is my take-away from that article:

"The launch brings Electrify America’s network presence to 47 states plus the District of Columbia. (I can say with confidence that they’re not in Vermont yet.)"

Also, keep in mind the Ford arrangement is only for the latest version of supercharger. The adapter (that you can’t acquire until sometime in 2024) will only work at the newest Tesla chargers. All the old chargers will still be T models only. Depending on where you plan to charge, this may be a big issue or non issue for you.
What I had read is that Ford users will be able to use V3.0 and higher.
