NACS adapter coming when?

Not knowledgeable about Tesla SuperChargers, but why do we care? All that matters to us is - which Tesla SuperChargers are we able to charge at?

Answer - those with CCS capability, which currently is via Magic Dock.

Open PlugShare. Change plug to CCS. Turn off all networks except Tesla SuperCharger. What it then shows are the places you can charge. Today that's 11 locations, in NY and CA.

Today it's limited to MagicDock locations. However, the V3 SuperCharger has the software capability for CCS charging - unsurprising as this has been the model being rolled out with CCS2 in Europe for a while.

So once adapters are made available (sometime in 2024 per current public announcements) all V3 SuperChargers should be available to use with that adapter (basically a MagicDock you keep in your frunk)

While conceptually this sounds right, keep in mind that no one has made a statement that all V3 SuperChargers will be available. Telsa could decide to keep some locations, or some chargers, as Tesla only.

V3 chargers are 250 kW chargers. Filter for supercharger only and 200+ kW.

It’s all meaningless atm anyway Jim. One of this is happening until next spring st the earliest. There are a lot of things that need to happen first. Tesla needs to develop the adapter for Ford, they need to update software fir their supercharger system. They need to update their app software. Ford needs to update software as well, likely including FordPass and perhaps an OTA update might be needed.

Don’t sweat on how to find v3 chargers until then.

GM hopping on board and any other manufacturer between now and 2024 just means the adapters will be harder to come by whenever they're released. Thought I read that the adapters would be made by Tesla, so I'll go ahead and put their completion right behind the Cybertruck.

That article mentions we go on FrodPass and pick a payment option, so I am reading that as we pay for it not offered to us for free.

I got my MME in October 22. The frunk button has always been in Ford Pass

Tesla is good at designing stuff. The adaptor will actually be made by some company in Taiwan, Vietnam, China, or Mexico in all likelihood. I'm personally not worried about the adaptors being vaporware. I also have no reason to worry. There are exactly 0 Superchargers on this island and none are slated to be built here, plus the NEVI contracts are already signed for the 6 or 8 chargers slated for this rock.

Lol, I’m not sweating. I never use public chargers (I have only been on a couple of “road trips” and the only chargers available were pathetically slow L2 chargers).

No one knows the answer to that.

Keep in mind these are two different things. The question is, whether Tesla tries to renegotiate with the government.

Thing 1 - Tesla negotiates with the government to open up 3,500 SuperChargers to all CCS vehicles by the end of 2024. 11 locations began testing Magic Docks. None of us knows if Tesla plans to roll out 3,500 Magic Docks, or some of them and some chargers with dual cords, or something else.

Thing 2 - Ford and GM negotiate with Tesla to open up over 12,000 SuperChargers to Ford and GM vehicles. Ford's deal allows FordPass (and perhaps Plug and Charge) to be used.

Requirement was for chargers to be usable by at least two auto manufacturers (I believe). Well now that Ford and GM have elected to go the NACS route why would Tesla go any further with Magic Dock? Just my thought and no insight on my part. I did see an article where the Biden administration was encouraging Tesla to continue down the Magic Dock path so there must be some talk about bailing on it.

I cannot believe that Tesla is stupid enough to think that allowing Ford and GM to use their chargers meets the deal they signed/agreed to with the Administration.

I know the Administration won't think that.

I do believe that Musk could decide to try and wriggle out of anything.
