Hi All.
Some of you might remember that i posted in January about me crashing my Mach-e in to a standing car in front of me by mistakenly pressing accelerator instead of the brake pedal. I got my car finally back from the repair shop last week Thursday. So this morning i was driving home from the gym and a bird landed on the road, i did not want to run it over so it was a "unplanned breaking situation" as was not expecting to break on the straight stretch of road. The same Happened, i hit the accelerator not the brake!!! So This makes me think- is my brain playing tricks with me, i mainly drive in town so only use one pedal to accelerate and break, in the situations when emergency breaking is needed my head automatically recognises the accelerator as the break pedal. There is no other way to explain this! If there would have been a car in front of me instead of a bird i would have likely ended up in the back of it doing the same thing i did in January- hitting wrong pedal by mistake. So i am not writing this to get laughed at as incompetent driver( i am sure i will), i am writing this to raise awareness and ask if anyone has experienced similar situations? Google does return some results when searching for this, but not much.
I personally think i am a good driver with 17 years of experience, passing additional driving qualifications for private hire taxi, driven cars, vans, pickups, sports cars, mini vans, people carriers across Europe, driven in London, Paris, Warsaw and Riga, driven manual, semi automatic and automatic cars and never ever had a similar situation up until now. I was not tired, i had my full attention on the road, not on any medication etc... I am 37 years old, healthy so age is not the issue either...I have now turned the function off as i really think somehow my brain thinks the pedal has both functions and also uses it in emergency breaking.
I know that it is difficult to share with others that you potentially have done something wrong and mistaken a pedal, but it has happened to me now twice, i got lucky this time. How is your experience with this? I
