And no, my decisions are not based exclusively on reading in a forum. I have used PaaK, as stated, to open my vehicle and access it. It has failed to let me in, even when opening the app. When I eventually get in, it has failed to start. And, the backup passcode prompt has failed to appear. Based on that experience, multiple times, AND reading on the forum, I would never depend on PaaK. I still go out to the car with just the phone, but never to drive it.

IMO, anyone relying on PaaK as the way to start their vehicle, given the known issues, is just begging for a "oh no, I can't start my car, and have to call an Uber or a tow truck" experience. It will happen, and has for some.

We got a 2nd key, free from the dealer, right after buying the car and having issues. I use PaaK when going out to the garage and forgetting to grab a key. I would never use it to drive exclusively. I don't trust it.
A uber or tow truck? Even if Paak doesn't work, even if your phone is dead, you can as a last resort use your passcode to start and drive your car.
I'm not saying that people don't have issues, even though I don't. I certainly have non paak issues that other people don't have at least. However, please correct me if i'm wrong, but saying people need ubers and tow trucks is super excessive.

Wifey has the fob, I have my phone. I've been reduced to passwords a few times, but it sure beats carrying that hilariously huge fob around.
Ditto except I haven't used a password in months.
PaaK works fine on my iPhone 12Pro but I do need to make sure the phone is awake.
PaaK is lousy on my wife's iPhone7, so she carries the fob.

Nope. Multiple people have posted they couldn't get the Passcode prompt to come up. I couldn't get it work prompt for it. I have reinstalled PaaK multiple times, followed all sorts of procedures, and just finally had wasted enough time with a not-ready-for-widespread-use technology. I am avid tech user, but having to call a tow, or an Uber, because I can't be bothered to stick a fob in my pocket is beyond the ridiculous, for me. I did get a good laugh at the person that posted that they had to Uber.

While I disagree with how you are admonishing those that rely on PaaK; I highly agree with this statement.

I'm at 14,000 miles and a year in. Updates by dealer and OTA. Still can't keep pAAk working well enough to utilize. I've given it a shot a few times, but very much let down. Even more embarrassing when attempting it in front of family or friends.

Lately with the cold, I find myself avoiding it at all costs. Carrying a child to put in to a car seat you don't have time or the energy to deal with pAAk failing.

Someday I hope it works smoother. I was able to get a free extra fob as well from dealer. So we are just better with that and no worries.

I didn't admonish anyone. That would be to warn or reprimand them for using it. I simply said that in my opinion, anyone relying on it was begging for a failure resulting in a tow or Uber experience.

Admonishing them would be calling them idiots for relying on technology that isn't reliable. I wouldn't do that. However, if some relies on it, and it fails, I will be smiling, at least inside... ;)

A relative got a flat tire. A month later they got another one. I said, "are you driving through construction sites?". Their response was "yes, but they have no right leaving nails all over the street"... @ChasingCoral said that it works great on his phone, but not on his wife's. So, if his wife relied on PaaK, and then it failed her, that would be a similar thing. That's why she's using a fob.

PaaK is unreliable for many including myself. The backup start code often does not appear and can take awhile to get it to do so. I now carry a fob in a faraday bag. Yes people have been stranded for hours who didn't carry a fob and have had to rely on other transportation. But as they say its "100% factual PaaK does work" Well until it doesn't and you have to Tow or Uber because you don't have a fob. ;)

As I used to say - oh Paak its been a happy divorce. My oversized fob you are now the love of my life. No polygamy here as Ford only gave me one fob....but this week Ford Corp. is providing a second FOB not because PaaK is reliable but because it's not and they know it.

I haven't even had to use my passcode in months. I think you are blowing things out of proportion with your Uber or tow truck comment.

I may have misled (lied :p) my wife that the '22 MME is so technologically advanced that it doesn't come with key fobs. So far no complaints from her... I am a little worried that once her Taycan CT order does arrive in a month, she's not going to give back my MME, because Taycan doesn't have Paak. The taycan forum members have been hoping for Apple car keys...

But your wife wouldn't, PaaK doesn't work reliably for her. And for many others.

Will it work reliably when your phone gets an update? Or FordPass gets an update? What if that update happens when you're traveling?

Thanks, but I'll stick with the fob. Whatever works for you, you should use.

No, I think she would risk using the passcode a lot. I think the risk of resorting to an Uber or tow truck is remote.

You are jumping to an incorrect conclusion with your severe FUD.

I have yet to be locked out by updates to FordPass, iOS, or PowerUps.

I haven’t used a FOB since I brought the car home. Paak worked fantastically the first month but after several months it seems to be a little more picky on phone placement.

If I hold the phone in my hands it starts the vehicle basically everytime. The couple times it doesn’t, force quitting the app and reloading is all that it takes. I’ve only had to do this 3 times, all with the newest app version.

I usually use my watch to unlock the car so the walk up feature isn’t a deal breaker. It does work sometimes though lol. Personally I like that it doesn’t work because I leave the car outside and my phone is always nearby lol.

I think the issue with the passcode not showing up is that CarPlay/Androidauto takes over the screen once it connects. I haven’t tested that theory though because just pulling my phone out of my pocket usually gets me going.

also, most issues seem to happen after the vehicle has been sitting for a while (like at home). So I’m not too worried about getting stranded somewhere.
