1. The car only checks Ford servers for OTA pending when started. It does not do that at your auto update time or any other time the car is off. Auto update time is only used when an inhibit OTA has downloaded. This is probably the most misunderstood aspect of OTAs.Huh??? I'm so confused...if I have OTA updates set on automatic for any day of the week at 2 AM, why would I expected to be driving the car?
2. If your vin has been chosen for an OTA, it will download as you drive, assuming the ATT LTE signal is good enough. This can occur over a significant amount of time if the download is large or LTE is weak. It can even span more than one drive cycle, the OTA is saved to spare memory until download is complete. Only then will it install and only if the 12V battery has sufficient SOC. Once the install begins, it will continue until complete even if the car is turned off. I believe some OTAs wait for the car to be turned off to install.
3. There is no way to force an OTA. If you do not want to constantly check for Software Updates, turn off Auto Update, and use the Update Now button to initiate a download/install. When you do that the car will notify you when a new OTA is available, eliminates some of the guessing.
4. Patience is a virtue, OTAs will come when they come.
