Huh??? I'm so confused...if I have OTA updates set on automatic for any day of the week at 2 AM, why would I expected to be driving the car?
1. The car only checks Ford servers for OTA pending when started. It does not do that at your auto update time or any other time the car is off. Auto update time is only used when an inhibit OTA has downloaded. This is probably the most misunderstood aspect of OTAs.
2. If your vin has been chosen for an OTA, it will download as you drive, assuming the ATT LTE signal is good enough. This can occur over a significant amount of time if the download is large or LTE is weak. It can even span more than one drive cycle, the OTA is saved to spare memory until download is complete. Only then will it install and only if the 12V battery has sufficient SOC. Once the install begins, it will continue until complete even if the car is turned off. I believe some OTAs wait for the car to be turned off to install.
3. There is no way to force an OTA. If you do not want to constantly check for Software Updates, turn off Auto Update, and use the Update Now button to initiate a download/install. When you do that the car will notify you when a new OTA is available, eliminates some of the guessing.
4. Patience is a virtue, OTAs will come when they come.

Huh??? I'm so confused...if I have OTA updates set on automatic for any day of the week at 2 AM, why would I expected to be driving the car? Some of the updates have even warned that you should not plan on driving the car for 30 minutes (or whatever) and make sure it is charged. I have usually received updates when other have said in this forum that they received them, until recently. I have a '21 Premium AWD ER that is driven every few days and parked in my garage where it can connect to my Wi-Fi, and I'm only up to 6.1.0 from 10/30/23....whaaaaaa. ?

I can't even get the update 23B50, which they sent a notice for in October saying I should get it ASAP, and which specifically says with Automatic Updates on, your vehicle will have to be parked with ignition off for 2 hours, and they recommend scheduling updates overnight.
The scheduled time in the settings is to INSTALL inhibit updates that have already been downloaded. It will not CHECK for new updates while the car is off. If you want to check for updates, you have to turn the car on (drive it) so it contacts the servers. If the car remains parked and off, it will never update. It does not wake up to check for updates.

Thank you for that most excellent explanation.

I am very appreciative of the info available on this forum and everyone who is willing to educate others. It's amazing how much one should know about EVs and how many EV owners are unaware of or unwilling to find out what they don't know.

Sadly, I was relying on the update info found in FordPass...silly me...and between the lack of info there and the less than explanatory notice from Ford, I finally logged into my account online only to discover there was way more technical info, including an update I was completely unaware of.

Long story longer, this letter from Ford and the update info I found online all seem to suggest I should be getting these updates OTA if I have auto updates on and scheduled. However, what I was oblivious to was the fact that they MIGHT NOT update automatically, in which case I need to go to the dealer.

Aaarrghhh...luckily, the dealer is a mile away and never too busy.

Thank you all for your time.

Just curios and nothing I am concerned about but should non-BC equipped models be expecting any of the 6.X series of OTA’s?

I have 1.5 years left on my lease. Wonder if I will get the fabled frunk release software before I hand it back?
In the Uk we are very behind on releases. I don’t have the volume control for the heating on my job 1 car yet.

Is the ATT wireless connection something that must be paid for? Not sure if I have this anymore.

You don't need to pay for it for OTA updates or basic telematics. The optional subscriptions are for extras such as sharing the vehicle's data connection with your handheld devices.

I’m in Antarctica right now, so it’s difficult to keep up with the important things ? I came here to try to find some Antarctic pineapples for @Kamuelaflyer ?
The real North west. Testing if you can still open the frunk in absolute zero?

How to open with door pillar?
Enter the code you set up, and then immediately press the 7-8 key. Only works if you have had the BCM update.
