and we have no idea why anyone would make this decision.
Actually we do know. The change wasn’t intended. It could be that once discovered the decision to push anyway was made because doing otherwise might result in a delay to the BC push.
wouldn't the situation be improved if Ford came out and said something like "this is the first step toward showing more useful information on the overhead car graphic, like brake light activation during 1PD, car faults, open doors and windows, improved follow-car detail....."
Yes. But the change was not intended.

Sorry, apparently I missed this. Got a link by any chance?

Honestly, I'm not sure what would be worse:

Intentional, with zero explanation.
Unintentional, with apparently zero testing and/or software quality gates.

Doesn’t seem like that’s the case. The Ford account in this very thread talked about the change to the graphics: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/powerup-6-8-0-released.32224/post-730751
Off topic, but I just realized you're the guy maintaining the github for the Mach-E OTA history. I pulled all the info from the OTA wiki page before it was taken down. I have an Excel sheet with all the 1.x.x and 2.x.x OTA's that were sent to the early built Mach E's. The info is mixed up with the 2021 F150 OTA's somewhat, but if you want the data to add it to the github, lmk.

Has the update actually harmed anything beyond certain sensibilities and cases where the adas functions are minimal (such as our roads here)? I would submit that odds are a substantial majority of cars will never notice any differences as they drive with the various features on all the time. Also keep in mind that the 2023.5 cars came this way.

Second, being inadvertent and part of a later UI change/improvement are not incompatible. It may just be jumping the gun a bit. Just my opinion but I personally believe that is quite possible.

Well I think this thread and others contain quite a bit of evidence that this is a highly visible and frustrating change for many of us. But it is what it is, and I'm not trying to convince anyone else that they should (or should not) be bothered by it. My point is that better communication from Ford would have made a big difference for those of us (and there are many) who are aggravated and confused.

While I’m in general agreement with you regarding communication, I’m not sure it would really have mattered in this case.

  1. Most drivers leave lane keep assist on so have always seen their Speedo on the right.
  2. Most humans are right-eye dominant.
  3. Most of us have been driving with speedometers on the right our entire lives.
  4. 20 something people complaining in a forum about this does not mean everyone wants the speedo in the middle.
  5. No offense but either accept it or buy another car. BTW few cars out there display a speedo in the center.

This would surprise me. I really don't like that feature (which is different than lane centering as part of Bluecruise).
You paid a lot of money for it. You might as well use it.

So sample size of 2? … Might want to take into consideration what body ratio both you and your wife are. The below illustration is a good example of why sight lines can be different for someone other than you.

If I had sat motionless in the car you might have a point. But I didn't and you don't. As I said, I moved my head in various positions, up down and side to side. At no point were the sides of the display obscured by the steering wheel. As suggested above, move the steering wheel to improve your view. Honestly, using the faux safety excuse to push you agenda is pretty lame.

Not sure why this would surprise you. It only alerts you if you’re wandering out of your lane and doesn’t alert you when your signal light is used when changing lanes. People who say they don’t like this feature are likely the ones who need it the most.
