Just reserved my Mach E, can’t wait to drive it! I was hoping someone could help me with a question I’ve been asking myself. Preconditioning my Mach E (especially in winter)will be a necessity. Do I need to have the Ford Connected Charging Station or can I install any EVC with wifi? Looked everywhere, can’t find an answer.

You can set up automatic preconditions based on time via the Mach-E or the FordPass app.

You can also use the FordPass app to pre-condition at will, regardless of what EVSE you have (as this is talking directly to the car, not to the EVSE).

And to take it a step further, you can precondition even if it's not plugged into an EVSE at all. You'll just be using up some of the battery power to do so.
That may be a step too far :). As methorian implies, you should be able to pre-condition using any Level 2 EVSE. That include a "dumb" EVSE, that has no connectivity whatsoever.

Correct. You can setup the car with departure times for a given location to do it automatically as well.

I've used that in my Leaf at work to pre-condition the cabin climate before heading home. No EVSE at work :(

Work? What's that? Haven't been to the office in almost a year.:) When I did go to work, I charge for free first thing in the morning (6:00 AM), and then moved the car under covered parking. I obviosly don't need to worry about it being too cold where I am.?

I'm looking forward to this with the Mach-E. I have a free Chargepoint station at work, but I always move the car when it finishes charging to free up the station for others. This means that it's not usually plugged in when it's time to leave work, and I don't want to use up precious electrons from the small battery in my Outlander PHEV to preheat since I can barely get home and back on a charge in the winter. I'll have plenty of electrons to spare in the Mach-E to preheat regardless of whether it's plugged in or not.

How much energy will the Mach-E consume while pre-conditioning? On the dual motor Teslas, it's 3.5 kW per motor, or 7 kW. The poor souls that don't use 240V actually lose battery while plugged in and pre-conditioning since they're only getting 1.5 kW on a 15A 120V outlet.

On the Focus Electric when I would precondition in the winter I would often lose battery even when I was plugged into a Level-2 EVSE.

A) Is pre-heating possible without being connected to any charger ?
B) And if so - how to start this phase up ?
C) Can it be in combination with navigation to the charging point?

It pulls between 4 and 6 kW for 30-45 minutes. I watched the readout with my OBD2 reader. It may cycle the heater on and off to avoid depleting the battery, because when I’m on my 4.5kW level 2 I don’t lose any battery % when preconditioning even though it’s a 6kw heater.
