I'm at almost 4 years and 100k miles. Except for some factory defects (mine was built during COVID) and a couple things I did to it, my car is BETTER now than when it was new, thanks to OTA updates.

I often tell people to buy used because the #1 problem isn't wear and tear, it's defects, so a new EV is in some ways WORSE than a used one, as the original owner probably will have taken care of the teething issues.

I have a 2021 that has been near trouble free other than a few recall/software issues. Am currently having an intermittent problem with the front camera - I have a Ford extended warranty that apparently doesn't cover the front camera repair. (also note that they won't repair it because it doesn't show up when they do the diagnostic test or test drive - even though I have shown them messages in the Ford app that the camera needs serviced).
That sounds like more a dealer issue than warranty. They don’t want to do it. I’d escalate to Ford or try a different dealer As that should be covered

Hey all! First time posting. I purchased my 2024 Mach E GT in November and I am *in love*. Best car I've owned. (Got a frickin sweet deal on it too.) I've already put 20K miles on it - so many road trips! - and I am fast approaching the 36K warranty. Debating the value of buying an extended warranty.

What has everyone's experience, both their own and what they have heard, about the long term hardiness of these cars? I know it only came out in 2021, so it's hard to gauge these things. My main concern is the electronics on this car. There is so much and I am worried that Ford may not be the best company to have locked down those kinds of details. I'm worried that I will have a $10K computer to replace down the road.

Appreciate any and all feedback!
2022 Mach E with only 5,000 miles. NO problems. ZERO cost for maintenance, fuel (we have lots of PV), tires, continuous downloaded improvements, drives well. Turned down two Rivian R1Ss due to minor dislikes, ditto Tesla Model X, Model S, Model 3, and Model Y. The only downside to the Mach E is 5 seats instead of 7 (or preferably 8). It's a GREAT car with the perfect mix of tactile, verbal, and on screen controls!

If you have the Ford Protect warranty, it should cover the camera faults. My faults have all been covered by that particular warranty.

2021 Job 1 car here. Two things needed fixing recently that are worth mentioning.

1. The rear window regulators failed. This is what limits the motor when you fully close and fully open. The windows were bowing out on close, so the motor thought it was closed and would stop. Auto-express close was failing. This was happening on both eindoss, even though we opened and closed them less than 20 times.
Left side part: LJ8Z-5827001-B
Right side part: LJ8Z-5827000-B

2. "Cord Lock System Failure": Lock actuator was not retracting properly and causing an obstruction at the charging port. Replacing the actuator would cost $993.87. Part: LJ9Z10D737A

The important thing here is that #1 was covered under the ExtraCARE plan, but the second part is ONLY covered on the PremiumCARE plan. So make sure you get PremiumCARE.

The lock actuator is what keeps people from disconnecting the charging cable when the car is locked. The part is only $63 or so, but you have to remove the entire fender and pull out the charging port to replace the actuator, so the labor is expensive.

Oh, since people are talking about software, I don't think software is covered by extended warranty, at least that's what my dealer tells me. I'll have to check the terms of the contract.

Anything relating to the charge port is covered by the 8 year, 100K EV warranty, which should have included your #2. I just had my entire charge port replace and it was covered.

You'd think, but while the charge port is covered, the lock actuator itself isn't. It's tricky. I spend a whole week trying to figure out coverage of this because even the ExtraCARE documentation covers powertrain components, but since it's not part of the actual EV system, it isn't a powertrain or EV component.

I believe you, but it still doesn’t make sense. I’d think that the lock actuator would be part of the charge port assembly. I need to look at a parts diagram.

We are likely to get plenty of more posts from people sharing why they did or didn’t buy the extended warranty.

Just know that the warranties are huge money makers for the dealers and warranty companies.

If you’re willing to pay more for “peace of mind,” buy it. If not, don’t. It’s as simple as that.

But most people will not have repairs that exceed the warranty cost.

I owned and operated a small Ford Dealership for 25 years. Of all the extended warranties we sold, 90% were never used. With that in mind, I am undecided about getting the ESP. At 34 months i only have 16000 miles.

'22 purchased in Nov 2022. 85k miles. Got a new HVBJB under warranty at 17k. Exactly no problems since then. No noticeable drop in range (I track every trip I make in a spreadsheet) Replaced the OEM tires at 37k, still going strong on my Michelin Cross Climate 2s since then. Expect to need a new set before winter this year at roughly 100k total miles, so I should get 60k or so on these tires. A couple cabin air filters, otherwise zero maintenance.
3 years @ 85k miles?
New HVBJB?
No noticeable drop in range?
On Mich CC2s?
Track every trip with spreadsheet?
60k on set of tyres?

Are you me a year ago??‍♂

Now coming up 4 years, 114,000 miles, out of all warranty, not going to bother with extended warranty though. Still going strong. Still love the car. Battery at 94% SoH.

Will retire in August so annual mileage will drop and may just keep it until I die?

I am sad and depressed to say that we have had to have both the Front and the Rear Electric motor/drive train replaced on our 2024 Mach-e AWD w/Ext range battery. I am very disappointed. It started with a mechanical dissonance or hum that started when I was driving at an even speed, like with cruise control. There was a loud hum/vibration from the front and also the back motors.
They replaced the front electric motor and drive train (planetary gear), 3 weeks ago. The noise was still there emanating from the back motor. It's in the shop and they will be replacing the rear motor and drive train.

I'm really depressed about this. My technician says he has never seen this before. I live in the Kansas City area and take my MME to Olathe Ford, Olathe, Kansas.

You are depressed because Ford is fixing your car under warranty for free?
