I'm sure someone has posted this info elsewhere but hoping one of you can at least point me to a post, or do a quick post, of the most efficient AND LATEST steps to find compatible Tesla chargers during a road trip. (I do not use android)
Also: don't you find idiotic that you can't use the car's touchscreen to make such search inquiries while the car is running?? it is my understanding you have to input your trip destination before you take your trip/start up the car.

I pick a rough route and then look at EA and Tesla apps to see where chargers are located along the route. Then I check the distance from starting point (usually at 100% charge, but not always) to a charger. Then knowing I will not be at 100% at any point after that I plan the next stops.

Since Ford has not added the Tesla stations, I just enter the address and go. I have honestly paid zero attention to whether the car is preconditioning for the charge or not. I just navigate to the next charger I have selected.

Others will have much more detailed info and suggestions but this has worked for me

I take your post to mean “what is the easiest way to find a Tesla charger near me?”
Open the Tesla app, tap on “Find a charger”. It will show the chargers near you. If you have the app set up for “Mach-e” it will say “adapter required” next to the ones that are open to use.

You could easily find them in the public charging app…..

Actual easiest is to use a better route planner to plan longer trips.

This is part of the EV roadtrip journey. Have a plan A and B, and besides on-board navigation, use apps like ABRP, Plugshare and the charge provider apps. I don’t road trip a lot but still need to have some awareness when I’m away from home in winter. Apps have gotten better as has DCFC infrastructure especially with availability of tesla network.

I always verify in the Tesla app. I’ve seen ABRP and PlugShare label some as “Tesla Only”. But upon a double-check within the Tesla app, those same chargers have been opened for “Non Tesla”. It’s just not been updated yet in the other apps.

Tesla will always have the most up to date info since it’s their charge network.

But if you don’t want to install their app, then the public charging section of Ford pass will only show you compatible chargers. And/or you can use Plug Share to double check.

Apple Maps and Google Maps EV routing can also be set up to show compatible chargers. Make sure you select NACS and not Tesla if given the option.

Yes, it's been posted dozens of times. You say you don't use Android, I assume that means you have Apple devices? If not, then you're SOL.

Options:

- PlugShare - Select "Hide Tesla Only".
- ABRP - put in car info and that you have an adapter.
- Tesla App - put in car info and that you have an adapter.

You have been on this forum for 20 months, and own a 2023. You want to make a search inquiry? Hit the voice button, and say "navigate to ____".

No, that has been discontinued.

Apple Maps will route you to Tesla sites. I had to skip a planned EA stop due to the parking lot being locked, and it re-routed me to a Tesla site.

I don't think it's possible.

The information is available in (at least) in the following apps: google maps, tesla, abrp, ford app on phone, public charging app in car, plugshare. I'm sure they exist in Apple Maps too? If there's that many, there's more.

Each app has its pluses and minuses. Some work with Android Auto, some don't. I'm sure some work with Car Play, some don't. Some have live updates with how busy, some don't. Some have price information, some don't. Some do routing, some don't. Some search along route, some don't.

The chances anyone can find the *efficient* app *for you* is not really possible.

Personally, I like ABRP's Android Auto integration enough that I pay the small subscription. It's pretty good at "find on route" and has live information.

When I'm not in-car driving, I like the Tesla app. It has up to the minute information. However, PlugShare is my go-to when I'm not stuck on using Supercharger.

Google Maps has the benefit of seeing amenity closing and opening times, which I find crucial. It doesn't have live charger state, though.

Ford App is less good than Tesla app, and/or the Plugshare app, so I don't use it. "public charging" in car doesn't know about routes (it always just does a radius from you), but it does have charger busy state.

The most efficient thing is to have a copilot, so they can bring up the different apps and cross-reference them and route to the optimal charger. Important decisions, like tacos vs pizza, require a human in the loop.

Idiotic? No. Safety focused? Absolutely. it’s called distracted driving.

It would be great if the Tesla app would have a CarPlay compatible version. Maybe if enough people request it, Tesla will make one.

You can input destination while driving through voice commands.
