Anyone have issues with their rear hatch not closing when using the Ford app or pressing the button(s) on the inside of the hatch? I had this problem once before but it seemed to remedy itself. Now it's happening again. I have to manually pull the rear hatch down, app doesn't work, buttons down work. I tried to close it with the car started and also turned off. Looks like another bug that the dealer will have to address.

Mine failed to power open the other day. I heard it unlatch but it remained closed. After I manually opened it the power close worked normally when I hit the button on the liftgate. It has been fine since. ?‍♂

I sometimes have to press the button a 2nd time to get it to close. That started after one of the updates (1.7.something) if I remember correctly.

But only that button on the far left is affected. If I press the center button then it works every time still.

I have only had to press a second time to close after the liftgate has been open for an extended period of time. It seems like the car falls asleep. After the first button press I hear contactors and relays click, then the second press closes it.

Mine can fail on the first press even if I’ve just parked and opened it. It‘s hit and miss. When I first got the car it seemed like it happened 90% of the time, now it’s more like 25%.

There’s a button inside the hatch? Or the one above the license plate outside?
There are 5 "buttons" to close the power liftgate. Probably overkill but I guess they wanted to make sure we were covered. :)
  1. Square button on the bottom of the liftgate. Same button used to set the opening height limit. This button isn't accessible when the hatch is closed.
  2. Round rubber covered button under the license plate. Will open or close the liftgate when unlocked.
  3. Button on the fob. Will open or close the liftgate.
  4. Button in the FordPass app. Will open or close the liftgate.
  5. Button on the Sync screen. Will open or close the liftgate.
Are there any that I missed?

Ah, I thought button 1 was only for height. I could have sworn when I tried it on my premium a few times it wouldn’t close the liftgate. I gotta give it a shot on my GT.

Maybe you were experiencing the failure mode @Maquis is describing from his early days with his car? ? ?‍♂

That may be it's primary and intended purpose but I've been using it to close and it works. :) Perhaps because I never set the limit to anything other than fully open (since I am 6'-1"). It might not work the same when a lower opening height is programmed?

Will be curious to hear from other user's experiences on this.....

Did you double check that the power hatch didn‘t get disabled through the Settings menu?

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I'd like to look into this concern.

Mine behaved one morning like something was in the way once when I used “button” #6, the kick to close. There was absolutely nothing in the back of the car other than the cargo mat and the stuff under the cargo floor. I closed manually then was able to open and close without problem. When I picked up a passenger, the passenger had problems closing it with one of the buttons on the edge of the liftgate. Manual close again, then open/close. After that, it worked fine. ?‍♂?

They replaced a sensor in mine and also some module that controls this. Intermittent issues as you describe stopped afterwards
