Repeated Rodent Damage

My 2024 MME Premium ER RWD has sustained serious rodent damage twice in six months, costing me almost $2K.

I live in the country. I have an outside cat. I have placed boxes with poison bait near the car. I have put drier sheets and peppermint oil in the car.

Any suggestions?

I don’t live in the country.

I live in the forest. Mice are ubiquitous. Peppermint oil and wizbang electronic devices that flash lights and make noise that humans can’t hear keep them out, but nothing will make those that have taken up residence leave. They won’t leave easily once they have moved in.

I mount one in the frunk, zipped tied under the removable vent panel near the 12V battery location. You can just pop that panel up.

Buy a pack of 12 mouse traps and bait them with peanut butter. Put them in the area around the car.

Dryer sheets and peppermint oil are not effective deterrents. Mice will still nest nearby.

Using a lot of mouse traps is very cheap compared to the damage they cause.

I've been fighting rodents in vehicles since the 1980s. Keeping food out of and away from the vehicle is the most effective solution. Next is trapping the area around the vehicle. But we don't use spring traps. We use buckets (with water if you want to kill the rodents) with a self-resetting lid. You can catch many more rodents with one bait. With a spring trap, only the first one is caught. The rest are attracted to the areas around the vehicle and are free to roam.

With a few of these, we catch around 50 a month.

wait.......What in the Fuckity Fuck Fuck are you talking about???? You catch 1.6 mice a DAY in AZ??? I am moving there as I just bought a house in Goodyear and am shipping my vehicle down there next month...I may have to rethink this...

gadgets, potions, oils dont work trust me. My wife is a rodentologist. The only thing that works is a weighted car cover.

There must be some fat cats around there.
I've got some cats that hang out in and around our horse barn. They seem to control our rodents.
