Hi,

The glass on my 2023 Mach-E premium got shattered, took it a glass repair shop to have it changed but they are unable to open the trunk. When I try to open it with the button, remote or through the screen I hear the mechanism going but the trunk doesn't open. Is there a way to manually bypass it to get it opened?

Can you elaborate more on how your rear glass was shattered? Based on the details you provided, a dealer would probably be the right place to diagnose and repair the damage to the rear hatch.

My wife hit a half open garage door while backing up, it hit the glass and it shattered. No damage to the trunk or the body of the vehicle at all. When you try to open the trunk, you hear the mechanism working but the trunk does not release.

Unfortunately, there still could be invisible damage to the rear hatch itself. Something like the impact pushed the hatch slightly out of alignment and now the latch won't release.
You need a body shop, not a glass shop to diagnose your situation.

Do you have an auto lift tailgate? Sounds Iike an issue with the lift cylinder. You should be able to still lift it with a lot more force.

As far as I know, ALL Ford vehicles have a manual release for their trunk and liftgates. For the Mach-E, refer to the instructions below from the service manual.

Thanks Mark. I was able to find this hatch and the release button, but even pressing the button and trying to push the liftgate up won’t budge the dang thing. There’s a torx bolt there which I’m assuming will get me more access, but I’m just going to take it in and hope warranty covers it.

Only if by warranty you mean insurance policy because Ford isn’t covering it after a collision
The car was never in a collision where I’m hoping warranty would cover it. The liftgate should not have broken and should have at least re-opened if it sensed resistance. If warranty isn’t for this what is it for?

I believe that @A-A-Ron is referring to the collision with the garage door which seems to have precipitated the non-opening of the liftgate. I would agree that any warranty claim would be denied and that either you or your insurance would have to cover diagnosis and repair to this. You can try to get it claimed under warranty, but it’s just that it’s likely for a claim to be denied. ??

Wow I am an idiot. I responded in the wrong thread. I have my own going on right now that has nothing to do with an accident or a liftgate hitting a garage door. Link below.
