I’m almost six months in since ordering so I’m getting closer to taking delivery (once my car gets out of chip hold hell).

The one thing I’m really struggling with on this car is the tires. I was driving behind a Premium (what I have on order) the other day and it just looks ridiculous from behind with those skinny tires. Anyone else feel that way? I love the look from all other angles, but it's kind of rough from straight behind.

I’d be inclined to wait for the EV6 except I think the back end on that looks pretty awful.

Has this been a deal-breaker for anyone else?

Not an issue for me.

Totally agreed, it's the wrong looking thing on the car. One of the first things I did was to get new wheels ?

You can put wider wheels and tires. You will likely suffer a range/efficiency penalty but that is entirely your choice. Odds are good you could even sell the stock wheels and tires to recover a good portion of the upgrade cost.

No, not at all.

There was a thread in the past I believe about this though. A few people switched to a wider tire. You might search and find it somewhere in this maze of threads.

My advice is drive the car first. I ended up putting on 18" CR1 wheels and factory size tires 225/60/18 LRR UHP Summer tires and got more grip for cornering because you can tune your ride by changing tires. The factory tires are designed to be smooth, have LRR, and be quiet maybe those attributes are key for you but I wanted more road feel and to make the car handle better.

I should also state that for the winter I got a set of select wheels and winter tires also 225/60/18

By default the 18" size wheel and tire will add range to the car.

I have a Premium AWD and agree. When people ask me what I think of my Mach-E, I say “it’s not fast” and “it would likely handle better with wider tires”. The wider tires would obviously add friction and reduce range however.

I’ll deal with it for now and just be happy to have my Mach-E finally.

It's one of the things that's making me look at other EVs. The inclusion of cooled seats and much wider tires really have me considering the Kia EV6. Though I have to see that one in person before I make a final decision. Not sure about that back end.

Agree. Just got my new wheels and tires put on my premium AWD yesterday. I went down in diameter and up in width. 245-55R18 Continental Extreme Contact DWS06. We got a bunch of snow last night so I haven’t had much time to test them out yet. I did notice much better feel in corners on my short drive yesterday.

A number of people have swapped out to 235/55/19 tires on the factory rims which works fine. I've heard that Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires with a slight bump in psi result in better lateral grip and no range penalty.

You can also go aftermarket for rims/tires but that's $$.

Lots of good information on this site about swapping out wheels and tires. You can spend a lot of money, or you can spend a little. Look into “take offs” from Jaguar and Volvo as several users on this site (myself included) have had success with these without spending as much money as buying factory wheels.

And as someone above posted, there is a strong market for the OEM wheels if you decide to sell them.

Really? Who is buying the factory wheels? I would sell mine but figured there probably wasn’t much demand.

Buy the vehicle you like because you can change the wheels and tires. You can’t take the Kia out of a Kia. I see $35,000 base model trucks with another $25,000 worth of lift kits, wheels, tires, etc., just to be a pavement princess. Spending a couple thousand on wheels and tires isn’t that weird or anything.

Especially if it’s the aero wheel covers on the 2021 selects with the comfort and appearance package. Those might be the ugliest wheels/covers I ever seen. I wanted the heated seats and steering wheel so I dealt with it, but it was frustrating every time I looked at them. And I typically don’t care about wheels!
