I probably wouldn't have opted for that cuz you won't need new brakes within 36 months, but we're not here to make anyone feel bad about buying a service contract. After all it's how dealerships make money, so hey just use up as much of those services as you can. I'm just jealous @jccoleman got one! I'm in San Diego but never ordered a MME. We actually ordered an XC40 Recharge and just backed out of the delivery so now we've turned our heads to the MME. At this point I don't wanna order one and wait 6 months so I'm just gonna hope the local dealers here have 1 or 2 pre orders that fall through or maybe have an extra on the lot. I've seen a few people on these forums get lucky with a pre-order unit that gets turned down by the original person. I'm talking with Mossy Ford who said they should have a unit to test drive in a week or two. They're teasing me by listing all of their spoken-for pre-order units on their site which is annoying but I guess I can't blame em, they want to drum up interest. I'll just hope that one of those will fall through....except for the base model Standard Range RWD Select model someone seems to have ordered... I'll pass on that one ?
What made you back out from taking the XC40 Recharge?

Congrats and thanks for training them on Ford options - my Premium is supposed to be showing up at Encinitas Ford in March (fingers crossed). Were you ever able to get a test drive before buying?
Welcome to the forum. Now we get to confuse you with the other San Diegan, @DBC!

What made you back out from taking the XC40 Recharge?
1) My local Volvo dealer staff we're not pleasant on my first interaction...I set up a test drive appt using online chat and specifically asked if I could test drive it alone due to covid and me being high risk (with rep following me in another car). They said yes. When I showed up they said no. The sales rep demanded he go with me, and couldn't even be bothered to put a mask over his nose. He also couldn't/wouldn't give me any lease numbers even though my car was en route on a ship set to be delivered in a week. Said the guy I would need to work with wasn't there that day. They apparent couldn't be bothered to realize or tell me this when I made and confirmed my test drive appt. Per Volvo you need to cancel the order prior to the vehicle arriving at your selected dealer if you want your $1,000 deposit back seamlessly (credit card refund). After that, you have to go through the dealership and it becomes a whole process...and I didn't want to deal with that process with such unpleasant people. I left that day without a test drive and emailed the sales manager my experience and disappointment. He said the 1 person who handled XC40 Recharge sales was on vacation and he'd contact me in a week! He's still never called me to this day. Thats the only dealer near me and the one I would use for all issues, service, etc. If that was how hard they tried before the sale I can only imagine how they treat people after the deal is done.

2) The Recharge range is bad, and the efficiency is worse. Even moderate climate testing has shown it getting at or just above 2 miles/kWh avg. With a usable battery of 75 kWh that's 150-ish mile real world range from fully charged....maybe 180 on a perfect sunny day. EPA is 208 but EV YouTubers are not getting anywhere near that in early testing. One of the guys from InsideEVs told me it's the most inefficient EV he's ever driven. That's not good enough for me for $59k.

3) It does not have a GOM (guess-o-meter for the unititiated) anywhere in either screen telling you miles till empty. It will only give you % battery remaining until you get below 20% at which point it will give you miles. I find this extremely annoying and confusing. I just pictured myself running errands trying to figure out if I have enough range left for the 4 places i still need to go to, knowing it's about 70 miles of driving and looking down to see "42%" on the screen. I don't want to do math every time I'm out driving my car to figure out if I'm gonna make it home.

4) It does not have any SiriusXM radio. Volvo said they have plans to implement it "perhaps later in 2021" but could not give me any further info. I listen to Sirius all the time in the car and my favorite talk shows are all there. Some music stations I love too. I don't want a vehicle that has no Sirius and no timeline for when it'll get it.

Yikes! Yeah, I would have run away from that dealer too.

Thanks for sharing, is there a time limitation for how long that service contract will remain in effect or just the 70,000 miles?

Sounds like the only thing you would pay out of pocket for are the tires, am I missing anything?
I bought the 70,000 miles so I think that's it. And yeah, tires are the only thing I can see being out of pocket for.

Well, kinda sorta. The dealer (Frank @ Encinitas Ford) threw me the keys and said take it for a drive before you sign. I did and loved it.

so can you use options financing and also use x-plan pricing? With the balloon payment is this still considered a loan? ie at the end of the term, you have to sell the car or refinance/payoff the balloon payment? Assume also eligible for the 7500 tax credit.

I guess I just need to figure out if $1k (the amount ford offers in my zip code) is worth it when financing at the higher rate and then financing the balloon at the end? I should think the 0.8% for 48 months is a better deal. Knowing that payments will be substantially higher

Yes

With the balloon payment is this still considered a loan?
Yes, Options is a retail instalment contract.

ie at the end of the term, you have to sell the car or refinance/payoff the balloon payment?
Your options at the end are to turn it in, refinance the balloon, or trade it in, see the link below.

Assume also eligible for the 7500 tax credit.
Yes you can file for the tax credit, the amount will depend on your situation.

I didn't realize you could turn it in, so mechanically it behaves very much like a lease then except for the tax credit and sales tax you pay, like a conventional loan would you pay the sales tax on the full sale cost of the car or excluding the balloon payment? Thanks very much for you info!

Or fully pay off the final payment to own it, unless I’m missing something?
