The cam button was a nice add to the ribbon. They don't come on automatically in all instances (such as an open parking lot) and often not until you are uncomfortably close to other object. Agree that the CarPlay button in the ribbon is weirdly redundant. I don't use the frunk nearly enough that it would need to be in the ribbon for me, but the trunk for sure.
Perhaps make the ribbon customizable then?
Also, I don’t understand what’s going on with people’s cameras? Mine come on when I get close to things (except, occasionally, curbs in parking lots). The only time I’ve ever manually turned them on is to show to people why the cameras on the Mustang Mach e can’t be used to monitor the car surroundings.

But they toss the CarPlay button on there when the same button is at the bottom of the screen. They also have a camera button on there and the cameras come on AUTOMATICALLY (no buttons needed). So I don’t think it is unreasonable.
They are in the same screen but the frunk button is disabled when the car is on - go figure.
I use cameras ALL THE TIME. Pulling into parking spaces so as to not hit the spoiler, pulling in and out of my garage. It doesn't come on enough for my use, so I use the button. Don't have CarPlay, so no button for that.

Especially if you just want to grab something out of the frunk after you’ve turned off the car.
Open door when you're getting out, reach down and pull handle twice. ;)

I think the best answer is a customizable top ribbon

I don't think you'll ever see that, but would love to be proved wrong.

Too many "what happen to that icon" and service departments having to deal with it.

Please no more clutter in the top bar. I swear the people who want a button for everything are the same people who have this as their desktop.

The UI started with 2 icons at the top, now it’s up to 4 or as many as 6. How much more do you want to shove up there to avoid being lazy?

Sorry, I am a firm believe in a clean UI and form over function.

No, not true. I use a Mac ?
All joking aside, there’s nothing wrong with a “clean UI”. If you make it customizable, as I propose, people can choose to have NOTHING up there. Other people might chose to have a camera button, but no CarPlay button. And still others might put their frunk button up there. Choice is always good. ?

I’m on Mac too, hence the form over function ?. I’d be fine with it being customizable. I just don’t know if they would want to support that.

Well ... someone has to make this comment so it may as well be me.

Before we talk about "improving" the frunk release ... can we at least HAVE a frunk release?

I'm still sitting with my '21 Job 1 ... and we still don't have an update to enable it. Being told to go to the dealer and have to pay to have them apply an update that was supposed to come with the car doesn't exactly do much to build brand loyalty.
I agree same case (Job 1) here why should we pay for a button that never worked in the Frunk.!

Couple of suggestions to improve the frunk release:
1. Place it prominently on the top menu bar. I shouldn’t have to burrow around in submenus every time I want to open it.
2. Keep it enabled after the vehicle is turned off, the way the trunk release is still enabled after the vehicle is off.
Minor nits in the grand scheme of things, but they’d certainly improve the frunk experience ?
3. Give all Job 1 cars a means of opening the frunk which doesn’t involve double pulling the mechanical release.

I agree. But for a LOT of people - like anyone with kiddos for starters - one touch access to the trunk is a big deal.

It’s not a coincidence that so many cars have a physical button near the left knee to open the trunk. In the Mach E, Ford replaced that with a redundant button for max defrost.

Customizable ribbon is the solution.

Yup. Like in a LOT of cars. And you can even swap it out in the Mach E but I’m not pulling things apart.

“except, occasionally, curbs in parking lots” is a big “except, occasionally.” It is also useful in open parking lots where you want to center yourself in the lines without any barriers to trigger the cams. I use it frequently. But to each their own - that’s why a customizable ribbon is best.

They could have just made the parking button pull up the cameras instead of the useless, or at best nonexistent parking feature that was deleted after the first MY.

I do occasionally use the self-park feature. That said, they could have replaced the switch with a programmable switch (a friend had a new Kia and the climate control panel is actually an LCD display with touch controls. They could have done something like that.)
