Taillight tint

wow yours look like light smoke wheras his def look much darker. I am getting the dark matter gray as well, might be that they just look ligheter in a darker car. I def like the look of yours.

I looked at lamin-x and their gunsmoke tint looks very similar to the VViViD light smoke tint I was looking at getting, so it seems like it's just different brands calling it different names https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083LF9RK...t_i_THA0SRMWQZPC1449NJ7Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I took my picture in the dark so it definitely looked darker there than it does during the day in person. Will share day picture shortly

I’ll start off with I think the blacked out tail lights look great. However, I’ve seen some that pretty much render the light useless. I’m pushing my luck not running a front plate in Texas. I don’t need any more reasons to get stopped.

I also travel a lot of 2 lane country roads with high speed limits and corners. Just yesterday there was a flagman setup in a construction zone. The car that came up behind me just barely got stopped. I always make sure I can be seen in situations like that.

I can assure you that the ones I used still show a very good amount of light through them. When the lights are on, its very hard to tell that they're even smoked. I used the Lamin-X brand.

I took this when I tinted them. One side is smoked, one side is not. Please point out which is which

Here's the Lamin-x Gunsmoke during the day. It's more in between, and definitely not rendering the lights useless...barely an impact IMO.

I wasn't going to apply it if it impacted the light so I did one side, pulled it outside, tested brakes, signal etc and I couldn't notice the difference from afar or close up. Of course if you go with some really dark tint it might, but the gunsmoke, that it appears most of us picked, doesn't have any real noticable impact.

There's also one shade lighter or a red tint. One of the members here had done the red, and I think it looks better than the white OEM as well.

First post, which started this thread, is my black MME, in case you missed it. Way better tinted.

I agree with Dave, Greg and others here. As long as you don't use super dark tint, you can barely notice the difference in light output if the lenses are tinted or not. I use a 20% tint and while it is a bit darker compared to the light smoke tint, the light output is still very bright.

The upper half of my lenses are tinted, the lower half is not. First two photos in direct light and you can see the 20% vinyl tinted lenses are a bit lighter than the gloss black vinyl wrap. The second two photos with the car in the garage and more shaded the tint looks black. Not a big difference between the tinted and non tinted sections in light output.

My laminx kit is starting to lift off in some places. Kinda disappointed...I did stretch a bit in some places so maybe I'll need to get another kit and install when it's warmer.

I went with the precut Lamin X brand in gunsmoke for the taillights, backup light, rear side marker lights and front reflectors There is one thing I didn't notice from most of the pics on here. Most kits don't include a tinted strip for the smaller turn signal light under the red running light.... you don't really notice it but if you look hard enough you can tell it's not tinted.

You really only see that if you’re looking from below. And kids, the only people short enough to notice, aren’t that attentive.

Have any of you taken your tinted taillights through a car wash? If so, will they stay tinted?

After following this thread, I ordered the Lamin-X kit but wanted to ask about the car wash before installing. (I probably should’ve asked this before ordering but whatever)
