With an OBD2 reader and an app like car scanner it's interesting what's going on behind the scenes as we can see actual battery energy vs what the SOC will display and how much that will fluctuate. We can also see HVB temps with preconditioning and on the drive. If you have a longer commute, preconditioning will definitely help with efficiency. Depending on how far you go the kwh added to precondition will make up for the kwh saved on the drive but not if you're only going a few miles.I don’t precondition as I have not seen good argument between added range vs. electricity use. I did have interesting situation at least to me where I went to work arrived at 18 degrees left later temp went up to 40. My % battery remaining went up from 18 to 20% while at work.
