So it's time to swap out my summer tires for winter tires in new york. I went around to a few places and there are no tires available (snow tires) in the 20" 245/45R20 sizes.

Soo...What to do? Is this a difficult size to find snow tires for?

My mechanic suggested blizak 235's. He said it's only .3inches smaller and should work just find.

So of course I needed to ask the internet :)

What say you all?

Do NOT drive on those tires with temps below 45 degrees.

10mm = 0.394 inches.

If you don't need snow tires, MICHELINCROSSCLIMATE2245 /45 R20 103V XL BSW

So does that mean a 235 will work? I need snow tires (think buffalo ny).

I always recommend checking with Tire Rack for sizing info. Theyā€™ve never steered me wrong. When I needed winter tires I always buy them on another set of wheels so itā€™s easier to swap in the spring/fall.

I just drove up to Buffalo with these this weekend. Nexen Winguard Sport 2 Winter Snow Tire - 245/45R20 103V XL. What an incomprehensible finish to the game :( (Go Bills!).

So far I'm happy, but you can definitely hear them, 68-70mph in particular was the loudest from what I noticed. Any speed above or below wasn't too bad.

I don't know how well they will end up working, but I'm now 800 miles into them. The link I provided below is where I bought them. It's legit and they shipped fast even with free shipping. I took them to discount tire to get mounted and it was quick and easy.

Itā€™s not just the size, itā€™s the load index and load rating. I would not go down on tire size, since a smaller tire generally has a lower load rating given the same index. The Mach-E is a very heavy vehicle. Check with Tire Rack as stated previously. Also check with @Discount Tire for the correct sizing and load. šŸ˜ŠšŸ©

235/45R20 is a touch smaller diameter than stock, but still acceptable. 235/50R20 is slightly larger, and also acceptable. The Blizzak 235/45R20 is XL rated (good), but is 100S load rated (so-so). Technically that is OK (more than the minimum required by the carā€™s axle weight), but it is slightly lower load rating than Ford supplies stock.

Iā€™d say it is probably fine if you are in a pinch, but if you have the freedom to shop around, the Continental VikingContact 7 and Vredestein Wintrac Pros are both available in the stock size, are fully rated for the carā€™s weight, and are excellent winter tires.

Thank you for the tag @HuntingPudel!

As mentioned, the load capacity of the tire is crucial. 235/45R-20 physically fits the wheels, however the 100 load index falls short, specifically on the rear E-Axle.

235/50R-20 would be a consideration, though winter selection is minimal in this size and would be 1/2" taller in overall rolling diameter.

For good measure I looked into what is available in 245/45R-20 right now, and see that the Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV and Pirelli Scorpion Winter are available, as of today at least.

I am using the Michelin Cross Climate 2 --they are a snow rated a/s tire--so far love them. they are quieter than the OE summer tires and feel like it's a better ride quality. I am in Chicago and feel confident with these tires for the Chicago winters. Hope this helps.
