Hi James,

That's a good question ?

The answer is no, and yes - depending I think on how the Sync connectivity works, as the network is always available when the car is at home!

The message came through to my FordPass Inbox at 07:27 this morning. At that time the car was outside on the drive - I was having breakfast prior to heading off for my weekly 5-a-side footie ?

So I assume that the car was therefore not connected.

As far as I can tell, when the car is started (at home) it shows in the car under "Connectivity" as connected to my network, and registers as a client on my router. It appears to maintain the connection for a couple of minutes after the car is turned off, and then goes offline.

I have therefore now set a schedule (per @portlandg post) to connect every Wednesday to check for updates just to make sure!

This is one of those areas where it would be really helpful I think if Ford provided more information and an easier way to determine which updates have been applied over time.

Cheers
David
I seem to be in the same boat as yourself.

My Wi-Fi is always on in the house but the car seems to forget it has access to it. I have to put the Wi-Fi password in each day.
My software is the latest version as well.

At least the issues are giving me something to go in the car for as I’m not driving everyday just now. ?

On the plus side my B & O headphones arrived today. ?

I'm intrigued as to why the satnav is sending you to Sutton Scotney southbound services which is on A34 if you are coming from Fowey to London. The way I would have gone would be A30/A303/M3 or A30/M5/M4
I chose Sutton Scotney for the 120kw charger.

Hi Kevin
A few quick answers to your questions - the FordPass app is non vehicle specific, so you don’t need a special Mach-E version. The standard FordPass download from the AppStore is what you will need.

From there it will ask you to add your VIN number (hopefully you have that already). This will setup the app for your particular vehicle. At this point you will be able to see some basic info, but for the full experience you will need to complete the in vehicle activation.

You can do that bit the day you pick it up, or give it a punt beforehand and hope that a technician or driver of your car says yes top the pop-up :)

After activation it’s a bit of a minefield as it’s a bit buggy - but just play with it and see what happens. You can always come back here for a sympathetic ear from the rest of us if it starts playing up. :)

Hi @Mercury8

That's interesting - my car seems to log-out of my network but doesn't "forget it" as such - I don't have to re-input my password. You seem to have the same issue as @portlandg I think in that respect?

I am intrigued as to how the actual OTA works though, as it appears they seem to rely on a wifi connection rather than (I assume) the car's own connectivity?

Hopefully setting up a schedule should trigger the car to connect to my wifi and check for updates ?

Like you I seem to spend more time getting in and out the car to check things rather than drive ?

Cheers
David

Hi Calum,
Do you know how much WIFI we can use and is there a monthly plan for excess data? I'm expecting mine next week.
Do we need to take any Service protection from Ford dealer? They are trying to sell few policies. Did you get any.
thanks

This will be interesting then because according to Gridserve's own website map they are only 60Kw chargers. Let me know please as I use the A34 a fews times a year

It's been 3.25 for a while. 3.26 was released in the US a couple of weeks ago. Sorry forgot , you are on IOS whereas I'm Android. Mine might have been available before yours.

It’s 120kw… a new install. Arrived with 16% (car said it would be 11%) charged in 69% in the time it took to get coffees and snack and let the little one burn off some energy on the grass (about 20min) then and set off again, arrived home with 103m left.

These cars really do what they say. Fantastic experience.

Thanks for that. I know Zap Map said they were 120kw so obviously Gridserve's own website is wrong already. It even says the ones at Chieveley are 60kw as well. Me thinks there is a glitch. Nice to know they are 120kw.

Hi

The trial that came with my car that I’ve set up is for 1gb of wifi over a month although I’m sure that Ford stated it would be more at one point but can’t remember how much.

I’m probably going to just use the data on my phone when the trial expires as I’ve always got plenty to spare every month and it doesn’t make sense for me to take out another plan.

As for service plan. I haven’t taken out any and the dealer didn’t push any. I suppose it’s really up to you. I’m not sure what any of the others have done on here regarding them. This is my first ev so I’m pretty much playing it by ear!?

So nice to see an influx of new faces on the forum - welcome to all of you who are picking up cars imminently.

The Mach-E has so much in built connectivity that I though it might be worth while to run through the different connectivity systems, as the terms "Wi-Fi" and "Cellular" often get conflated and they cover multiple systems in the car.

Ford Connected Services Modem
This is a cellular data connection that enables all the smart services in the car. This includes all the FordPass Connect systems such as Navigation and Map updates, Live Traffic info functions, an even your location and tyre pressure data shown in the FordPass app. It's also the main connection your car will use to download Over-The-Air (OTA) Updates. There is no data limit on this connection as it is not accessible to the customer, it's purely used to connect your car to the outside world and Ford's servers. It is included free of charge for the first 5 years of vehicle ownership. After the 5yrs it is subscription based (no price info known as yet)

Onboard Wi-Fi Hotspot
This is the second cellular data connection in the car. It's completely independent to the first one and is solely used to provide a Wi-Fi hotspot for passenger devices in the car. It's tied to a Vodafone "Internet in the Car" eSIM which gives a 1Gb/1 month free trial on activation. Thereafter it's £11 or £20 a month if you decide to sign up on Vodafone's website. It's not required to allow the car to download updates or perform any functions, it's purely to provide passenger internet.

Wi-Fi Network Connectivity
To help speed up the OTA update process you can also connect your car to your home Wi-Fi. The use case here is when your car is parked outside your house it can connect to the internet on a faster connection (and use your bandwidth instead of Ford's ;) ) This can be helpful if you live in a poor signal area for cellular services.

App Wi-Fi Projection
Yet another Wi-Fi connection broadcast by the car - this one is solely used by Wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It creates a data connection between the car and your phone to display the CarPlay / Android Auto interface. Note most phones can only be connected to one Wi-Fi network at a time - so if you are using CarPlay etc you won't be able to connect to the In-Car Vodafone Wi-Fi at the same time. It's one or the other unfortunately.

So as you can see there's a lot going on here with connectivity, and anyone new to the Mach-E can be forgiven for not knowing how it all links together.

Hope that helps

Tone

Yeah - the Apple approval process can slow things down sometimes. The iOS version of 3.25 only got released on 7th July. We're not bleeding edge like you Android guys ?
