I will be going to the Fully Charged Live Outside event at Farnborough on 3rd September and will take every opportunity to complain to all the Public charging network operators there about the poor charging infrastructure in this country. They have to rapidly raise their game as 2030 may seem a long way off but in planning charging infrastructure strategy it isn't.

Hi, Guys

Quick question. What is the maximum KW the MME can take on a DC charger?

Also, has anyone had a problem with the Ford charge card ?

lastly, does anyone recommend a route planner app? I have Zap Map but wondering if it is worth the subscription?

I am going on a road trip with my boys so will be the first time I am putting to the test.

route consists of :

Mon - Preston - Stoke, Monkey Forest
Tues - Leicester, National Space Centre
Wed - Windsor, Legoland
Thus - Dunstable, ZSL Zoo - Preston.
Fri - Preston to Newquay

It’s going to be 1300 miles of cruising. I’m going to be knackered ?

also, after 1550 miles driving my car, I’m quite chuffed not to have seen another MME ☺
That’s quite selfish lol ?.
SR = 115KW
ER = 150KW

I agree, I am planning my route and looking on ZAP MAP, way more than half of the chargers are unavailable - as I’m not working !

I’m taking a different strategy and seeing what discount I can get on an EV Point. ?

A better route planner is a good tool for ev planning. For me tho I just research where the ā€˜best chargers’ are around the U.K. and just plan the route around visiting those. Ie M6 moto services at rugby have great services so when we went to the Peak District we stopped there.

I agree, planning is an absolute must for EV.

I thought I would come and check out the local super chargers at a garage to test them out - not working .

I checked on ZAP MAP and it is consistent.

I have planned my trip and there is a super chargers at Miller and Carter so looks like we are having a steak dinner on our travels lol .

does anyone know why they are so frequently broken/ out of service ?

So, I have just found a fundamental problem with the Ford route planner.

I have just plugged in all the attractions on my route and the Ford planner says to stop at:

Morningside Arena Leicester

I cross referenced this with ZAP MAP and there is no icon to suggest a charger is at this location.

I clicked on surrounding chargers but none stated as the Morningside Arena Leicester.

I have then looked at the Lidl charge stop as detailed by the Ford planner. It is Lidl, MK10 7JG . Glad I checked ZAP MAP. It’s out of service .

The Ford route planner is a concern

Update - just done my route planner from Preston to Newquay .

first charge stop at M5 Gloucester (S) services GL4 0WW - NOT WORKING

second charge stop at McDonalds, Cullompton Motorway services - WORKING

So that is 1 charge point from four suggested by the Ford route planner that is working - 25% That is poor .

Indeedy, especially after doing a 515 mile road trip Monday-Thursday with a hyper 5 and 7 year old and then road trip to see a mate in Newquay on Friday.

just picked up another issue with the ZAPMAP

it has me charging at a hotel in Newquay. Looking further into it, you need to be a hotel guest to use it.

Doesn’t your Ford card give your privileges access to use this ?

I think there's a rapid charger or 2 at Cornwall Services on the A30 west of Bodmin. If you're using the A30 it's on your route. Just checked- there's two units but only one CCS charger. Currently shown as working. Ecotricity though so you may need the app on your phone.

If it's an old Ecotricity don't use it. They won't charge a Mach-E for more than 1kw before giving out. Avoid at all costs.

The new Gridserve Electric Highway ones are spot on though.

I wouldn’t think so as it’s a hotel facility?

Thanks tony

Cheers, I have screen shot that for reference. I have the Ecotricity app. A pop up comes up and says something like you don’t need the app now. Good job, it doesn’t work well.
