My role in IT has allowed me to get down and dirty with the systems of many companies across several industries - insurance being one of them LOL. Working on the launch of AVIVA's first big telematics system will haunt me for years to come ?

Now I’m confused. What more do you get with PAAK if we can use the app on phone to lock/unlock. I thought this was PAAK. Also does anyone know if a second fob can be purchased ( and for how much)?

So a lot of cars like my current XC90 allow lock/unlock and remote start/climate through the app. But it won't let you actually drive away without the keyfob. This is useful if say I get into work and phone alerts me I forgot to lock my car. I can just tap lock on the phone. Or if we are out shopping and kids walk to the car. I can unlock the car to let them put things in the boot remotely. Likewise in the current weather I can remote start to defrost etc without actually going to the car.

PAAK would mean you leave your fob at home and your phone actually lets you drive the car away without the fob.

I'm sure that I am not alone in saying that in this instance that is a benefit to us all.

Yes I did. I forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me? I just didn't think it was a rfid card as I couldn't see a chip or magnetic strip. I'm sure all will become clear in due course.

In Scotland we can get a card from the EST for £20 a year that gives free charging, is this not U.K.-wide?

So I have one additional driver (other half) - who had a claim within last 5 years (non fault biff) and both AVIVA and General Accident will cover fully comp with protected no claims for less than £240.

I think ford give you breakdown cover for the first year.

What company did the meerkats say would give you that? The cheapest they told me was £505. That seems a huge difference just for extra drivers

Yeah I think they do. I never buy additional breakdown with car insurance as my bank account with Lloyds includes free AA Membership anyway. The amount shown below that insurance quote was for breakdown as an optional extra and wasn't included in the price.

Another money saving tip for your insurance... Get your quotes from the Meerkat or similar, then check out Quidco to see if the company who gave you the best quote are doing any cash back offers. You can often save another £40 - £60 off the price as cash back. The only downside is you often have to wait a few months for the cash back to be confirmed - but hey - free money is free money

I used a March start date (most will only quote a maximum of 30 days in advance). It pays to purchase insurance as far ahead as possible.

Has anyone else whose build was in December and now is in transit and has a ship date not had their ford pass pack apart from me. I know I live in Wales but we left the EU not the united kingdom!

It may depend on when Ford took the data extract to send out the packs (although I would hope they are not using a pre-September 2020 order mailing list!). Might be worth an email to the concierge team just in case you got missed.

I didnt realise that card we got mailshoted was RFID , I thought it as just a code on it that we keyed into ford pass and then use that iffy app!

RFID chips are tiny and embedded within the plastic along with an induction loop aerial to pick up power from the reader - so not like a bank card where you also have a chip that has contacts on it for reading (like a phone SIM).

I've also been doing some research - PAAK is now allowed in UK. So whatever issues the insurance market had against it seem to have been resolved. (BMW & Honda are both pushing it on current and new UK cars) ... but as with all these things until we actually get a car in our hands we won't 100% know for sure!
