Has anyone read up on how good the security is on them? There have been a number of Ford’s stolen, guessing clone key etc, just wondered if the MME was ‘as secure’ as it could be.

Glad you asked that- this is a concern I have reading that some insurers in the UK are refusing to cover cars with keyless entry

The major problem was that was keys transmit all the time which leaves the open to cloning. The MME keys stops transmitting if it is still for a certain amount of time so can't be cloned. If anything the MME is MORE secure.

Is that so?
Like the new keys in a Ford Focus?
So the key has a motion sensor and when the key lays still the car cannot open with the key?

I suppose you could always put your keys in a faraday box/pouch when not in use to be doubly sure that they can’t be scanned.

This is what I read in another forum (not cars but shooting)-

''Saw something about this earlier so went looking to see if it was true .

Insurers declining insurance on certain vehicles.

Report I read cited some keyless entry vehicles.

LV Informed me they no longer cover Range Rovers???!!!!
Anyone else get the email this morning?

Email as such-

Thank you for choosing to insure your LANDROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE SE TDV6 (258) AUTO with LV= over the past year.

We’re writing to you to let you know that, unfortunately, we’ve had to make some changes to our underwriting approach for your vehicle type.

Over the past few years, there’s been a rise in thefts of the LANDROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE SE TDV6 (258) AUTO, which you may have read about in the press. As a result, we’ve seen a large increase in the number and cost of claims we’ve received for these types of vehicles and have made the difficult decision to stop insuring them.

This means at your next renewal date on 14 April 2021, we won’t be able to offer you a renewal price. We will send a letter confirming this again in advance of your renewal date, the letter will explain that this is due to a change in our underwriting criteria. Please rest assured this won’t be classed as your insurance being declined, so you won’t need to declare it to other insurers.

We never want to leave our customers in the difficult situation of having to find cover. However, we feel that continuing to cover certain vehicles would create a greater overall detriment to our customers by increasing pricing overall.

Your insurance will remain in place until your renewal date. We wanted to write to you in advance of your renewal date to give you plenty of time to get quotes from other insurance companies and to arrange suitable cover elsewhere. If you wish to cancel your cover in advance of your renewal date, please give us a call and we’ll waive all cancellation fees.

We appreciate you may wish to call us to discuss this now, however we won’t be able to discuss the contents of this letter until you’ve received the confirmation letter we send in place of your renewal documents. This letter will be sent approximately 3 weeks before your renewal date when our systems have been updated and will include your proof of no claim discount.

If you do have questions, we’ve created a webpage with more information at https://www.lv.com/gi/faq.''

Personally I'm not too bothered as My car is parked right under a recording security camera. Perhaps LV are jumping the gun. This technology is here to stay. Also i fancy a MME won't be a target as it'll stand out somewhat in the UK!

I had this with my X3M my first year was 514.00 when the renewal came in it was 1300 there reason was that the car was highly desirable to thieves, looking around I found a lot of companies not willing to insure it because of this even with a tracker, and turns out the 1300 was the cheapest quote I could find, this plus 1200 for new tyres and £200 in fuel every 10 days meant it had to go. I averaged 210 miles a tank, roughly at best 19mpg.

Insurance for the MME is 646 again, hopefully car will arrive soon before it changes.

I know it can't be compared but I'm paying £180 pa for my Toyota C-HR, that has keyless entry as well, an expensive car for top range as mine is these days.

I would have thought "highly desirable for thieves" ie cars that are targetted would be things like Pumas and easier to hack into cars rather than EVs.

I suspect the mache wont be as attractive as cars that are easy to get and easy to then fence within a short timescale.

LV are now useless to get a quote from. You go through the whole quote only to get a message at the end for the mache saying they don't insure it.

Absolutely- Personally I think my C_HR would be a better target or thieves than a MME, which drives around with a flag saying 'look at me' Anyone stealing one would be an easy target I think (hope)

Still- with everything else going on why worry? Enjoy it when you get it ??

The list below is interesting considering most of these if not all will be over 60k and therefore need a tracker to insure, it’s surprising they are the top stolen cars. But seeing how easy it is, less than 30 seconds to twoc a car with keyless entry. I know of a couple locally that was tied up and beaten for their cars and jewels, I won’t bother with a pouch for my key, if they want the car that bad they can have it, not having them come in my house with my kids here, cars insured and at the end of the day it’s just a lump of metal. Apparently not many Tesla’s stolen though so hope the MME is along the same lines as that.

The car appears to log its location into Ford Pass, that should be a good deterent.

I doubt security cameras will make a difference though as faces are obscured.

MME RR ER RWD ?
Country flag
Hi all,

Even though we are all still waiting for our lovely, shiny new MMEs, we can at least now install our lovely, shiny new Ford Connected Wallboxes ?

For anyone who, like me, requested a quote for the installation of a Ford Connected Wallbox, I had a call today from the (very helpful!) British Gas EV Team that they are now finallly in the UK (Leicester) and ready for installation ?

As luck would have it, I have my "test drive" tomorrow morning so at least I will be able to see (or in my case, confirm!) that the car is all I expect before installing the charger.

And hopefully the charger won't be obsolete by the time the car arrives ?
