… and my final words on updates (I’m sure I’m boring you all stupid)

As someone who doesn’t have a home charger due to where I live, one of the benefits of the updates I was looking forward to most was the improved DC Rapid Charge curve.

I visited my local IONITY charge site this evening that is just a couple of miles from home. Rocked up with a warm battery at 49% charge. Charging started at 79kW and ramped up to 98kW quite quickly.

Normally at 80% the charging speed would drop off a cliff and fall to somewhere between 8 - 12kW. This made DC charging past 80% pretty pointless as it hogged a rapid charger to charge at AC charging speeds.

Not any more :) When I got to 80% the charge speed dropped from 98kW to a still respectable 48kW, and there it stayed until my battery got to 93%

In summary the new charge curve went like this…

49% to 80% - averaged 84kW (max 112kW)
80% to 92% - 48kW
93% to 96% - 23kW
97% to 98% - 15kW
98% onwards - 9kW

Super handy for everyone’s next long distance trip :)

The previously pessimistic Range Meter also has a new positive outlook. Will be interesting to see how people take to suddenly having more miles in the cold weather. I’ve magically gained an extra 80-100 miles on a full charge on my ER RWD.

I'm sure I can speak for a large proportion of the forum that your updates on updates are not boring. It's nice to see what we will eventually get for those without the software or courage to do it ourselves. I did used to update my Mazda CX5 head unit software via USB stick from downloads obtained off a certain Mazda forum. This was scary enough as the unit could be bricked by not remembering to press the brake pedal every 30 minutes to not let the head unit go into sleep mode whilst updating. I don't think my nerves would stand the will it/won't it updating of the variety of modules in the Mach-E. Kudos due to yourself and Proximus. ? ?

You could never be boring. You are very informative. Hope your updating went according to plan and you have a better car for it. I'm going to wait until my dealer calls mine in for the roof recall. Just in case. Happy New Year.

There's a really good getting started guide on the forum here which has also had a lot of additional info provided by our own @ProximusAl

It's not a cheap pastime as you need a few bits of specialised equipment such as a 12V 50A power supply, an interface between the car's ODBC port and your PC, plus a license for the Ford FDRS software (full price list here). I used a 1 day license which is £52.84 for 24hrs.

Realistically you're looking at about £250-£300 to get yourself fully setup, but after that you'd just have to pay for the FDRS software fee each time.

.... or you could get your dealer to do it for you for free ;)

Unfortunately we don't get window stickers in the UK (a US Sales info sheet that comes from the factory and is displayed in the car window) - but you can get your build date from www.whereismymme.com

On that site enter your VIN number and hit search. Your build date will be in the "Vehicle Info" tab in the list of data and will be in the format of YYYYMMDD

Hope this helps :)

If they bother to do ALL the required updates...
Well yes - that’s the issue that pushed me to a DIY solution. Time is money, and for some Service Centres they will only do the bare minimum required in the work order.

I’ll be honest - I didn’t have enough time to do absolutely everything that was available for my vehicle in the time I had. There were a couple I had to leave due to technical issues, but next time I have a few spare hours I can go apply a few more.

Tell you one thing though - after driving around the last couple of days - was definitely worth it :)

[EDIT - It’s back online as of 1am - 5th Jan]

FordPass and the Web Dashboard are both currently experiencing some technical issues right now.

They’ve been down for a few hours, so if you’re trying to get access to anything and it’s not working it’s not just you :)

Hi All,
I am due to collect my Mach e this month. I already have a pod point charger (was fitted in Nov) - and today decided to have a look at the Electric tariffs available.

I used to be with Avro, who went bust and was moved over to Octopus - having a look, I am on a variable tariff but as it is capped, it seems a lot more competitive than others available. 21.37p per kwh. If I change to the GO tariff, it is now 7.5kwh between 00:30 & 4:30 and 31.31p for the remainder of the day. We are a high usage household at roughly 10,000 kwh per year average. I'm a bit torn as to what would work out better.

I know the answer will be dependent on how much I use the car; This will vary, but my office is 100mile return commute (no chargers at work) - This is once a week at the moment, and for longer drives to customer site (350miles return), I will be using my wife's ICE car - as it owes us nothing.

What is everyone else doing?

Thanks.

Assuming you get 3miles per kWh, then you’d need to drive >21,000 miles to benefit from the Go tariff.

Anyone had any problems route planning in the FordPass app (during the last week not today)?
Whenever I put in a location it crashes.

I am in a simialr position I did some cals a few weeks ago (Octopus was 5p/KWH 00:30 to 04:30 at that time) and it was £200-£300 better with Octopus. I am on a fixed tariff 19.??p / kWh Sainsburys (Eon). My conclusion was to get a smart meter installed and see how things develop.

Well today has been a fruitful one in terms of my Mach-E’s snag list….

1) Got a call from my dealership. The replacement SYNC4 touchscreen that was ordered in August 2021 has finally arrived and is scheduled to be fitted next week. If all goes well next week I will have a fully working screen for the first time in 7½ months!

2) I finally got my SYNC4 APIM Module Update to work - so I’m now fully running Power-Up 1.7.1 (SYNC4 Version 21174 Revision 168)

3) While my car is booked in they wanted to do the Pano Roof Recall works - so I’ve ok’d that to happen.

At this rate I’ll have the snags sorted just as my 2022 order arrives. ?
