Everyone's needs are different. Within the family we have an Alfa Stelvio (4WD), My Alfa 4C (RWD) and 3 smaller FWD cars. The FWD cars have always coped very in all weather conditions (it tends to be bad drivers that cause most accidents), my RWD 4C is a track machine but way too much power to weight ratio to drive even in the wet aggressively but the Stelvio is incredible to drive in all conditions. Thats why I chose the AWD version. It's all down to driving styles and how much you drive to me.@kamtheman and @richresroc The choice of RWD or AWD is and has to be purely personal. I do not want to influence you one way or the other but I will give the reason why I went for the ER RWD.
I haven't driven a rear wheel drive car since 1982. All but the last 2 have been front wheel drive. My last 2 cars have been AWD Kuga's and I have been grateful for the AWD system once in all that time (nearly 6 years). The main reason for the AWD choice was because they offered more power to my right foot.
My MME original order was for a SR RWD which I preordered on 29 Feb having cancelled a Peugeot e2008 that day. When I found out the spec of this version (virtually nothing) I thought about the SR AWD but that didn't fair much better although it did have the better seats. So it was the ER RWD fully booted and spurred. Then the Chancellor changed the rules on the PICG which put my choice out of the range. Good old Ford though. They lowered the price so that it qualified. Thankyou and happy days. I don't really need the range, my commute to work is 16 miles round trip, but as I am getting older I want to spend less time at work and more time away(current circumstances allowing) so extra range will be useful. My choice therefore over RWD than AWD was made on purely aesthetic reasons and not practical. Living on the South Coast we don't get a lot of snow. It does rain a lot and can get icy but not enough to warrant another £7000 (or £10000 if you factor in the PICG). I wanted the tech and the comfy seats to better what I have already or there is no point getting a new car, so that when I do make the odd road trip I will be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Black (wasn't keen on the other colours) ER RWD it is then. Whatever you choose I hope it comes soon and you are happy with your decision.
This is going to be my daily driver so I wanted something that would get the adrenaline going when I wanted/needed it and hold the road well in all conditions.
I'm actually really pleased by the reviews saying that in the wet they did feel the rear power a little more!
