Thanks

In the UK Ford has teamed up with Ionity and BP Pulse (formerly BP Chargemaster)

Perfect - thanks.

One more question - the self-drive function, available after a software update later on in 2021, seems to rely on Ford very carefully mapping the roads that you can sell-drive on.

Are they doing this mapping in the UK and if not, will self-drive be unavailable?

Because they are marketing it as a mustang, for the same reason as it isnt on the American version.
Never noticed that. I wonder why Ford would be embarrassed to put their logo on that model?

That is a very good question. I think with other UK self driving vehicle software (ie Tesla) the motorways have been mapped, but I’m not sure about other roads.

How Ford will implement this, and using what data is a bit of an unknown at the moment.

Just looked up Ionity charging stations - there only appear to be 13 sites in the whole of England, Wales and Scotland combined with a further 3 sites under construction.

https://ionity.eu/en/where-and-how.html

BP Pulse is better - though still only 15 sites in England with CCS superchargers that can charge at 150kW

https://www.bppulse.co.uk/pulse-point-map

Is it me or is this really crap?
I think you will find that BP Pulse also encapsulates the Polar network although I think most of those are only 50kwh.

There really aren’t many 150kw chargers around and they all seem to be mainly at motorway service stations. Can’t think that it’s going to be easy planning a long trip with minimal wait times.
There has to be massive expansion planned otherwise there’s no point in pushing the EV

Do we know how much Ionity and BP Pulse will cost for an MME owner given these partnerships? First year and ongoing? I assume the kWh will be discounted?

I see a lot of people mention the high 69p/kWh Ionity cost but I assume that’s the maximum price you would pay if you weren’t a member or got a discounted from being part of the founding network (Ford, VW, etc.)

It's very early days for those super chargers.

Does anyone know the rates if you're a member of these charging sites?

I believe whether someone considers the current provision to be poor or okay will depend on their likely pattern of use.
For somebody mad enough to have an ev without reasonable access to home charging it would be hopeless.
For someone regularly travelling the Uk for business it would be challenging. Especially if that entailed visits to Wales.

For me living in the south generally with local journeys and only travelling around the UK for holidays I think it is okay. I would use ultra fast chargers on the planned journey if that were viable for the route if not as the distances are generally not great I would plan for a combination of fast and destination charging. My time is not super critical and would be stopping for breaks and overnights. For others this would be a drag.
I would definitely use the channel port ultra fast facilities if and when we can go on holiday again. For me the European network provision is more important than the UK stations As that is where I will be undertaking long distance hops.
i would also be happy to use chargers outside the Ford Pass system as most new ones will have contactless payment.
Clearly I wish there were chargers everywhere but that will take time as the investmen/return must be questionable at present.

For those of you looking at what’s available and where ... download and install the Ford Pass app.

Click on the “Map” icon on the bottom menu bar, and select “charging”

Any points included in the Ford Partner Charging Network will be highlighted as “In Network”

I’m already a member (£8pcm) of BP Chargemaster / Polar / Pulse and they have discounted rates on DC Fast charging for members.

Rates vary depending on speed of charger. Full rates are in the BP Pulse app, but can be as low as 15p per KWH for DC Rapid.

This makes sense for stations that require cards.

It's also the first time I've seen any mention of a FordPass charging card.

Thanks for all the info. A lot to consider here for anyone going outside their home charge radius.
