Why would the ER battery be required for that?

Only because you'd have range to spare. The SR battery would work as well just depends on how many spare electrons you have after your commute--especially in winter. (There isn't anything in the car that limits this feature...it will work for either battery. Just that remote starting it at the end of the day when its cold soaked to -10C that may consume quite a few kWh to warm everything up--just make sure you can spare them.)

The remote start/go time/etc. also warms the battery.

Ah, okay. My commute is 10 miles, so I think I’ll be able to spare the electrons, even with the SR battery.

Among other sins such as using the metric system, the Dutch and others use a comma in place of a period when writing out numbers with decimal points.
In most European countries they use a , (comma) where we (USA) use a . (decimal point) and a . (period, decimal point) where we use a , (comma)

Europe USA
1.234,56 1,234.56

Having worked with developing software for use in both Europe and the USA I learned this the hard way.

Can't use them yet anyway. ;)

I don't see how Tesla avoids moving to CCS and then at that point there's no reason not to open the network and just charge higher rates to non-Teslas.
This will happen. Apparently already is by recent Musk tweets.

Ideally, yes. The battery should be warm before driving off, but it's not required. If you set a departure time, the car will condition the battery just before it's time to leave.

If you don't, it'll warm itself as you drive, but a bit of battery range will be used to do so.

You program in "go" times (I don't think that is what they are calling them in the Mach-E but it does include this feature).

It supports two times a day that you can program in: "I want to leave for work at 7am and make it 'warm'". The car will then automatically warm itself up and be ready to leave at 7am. Since the car is plugged in this warming up uses electricity from the wall instead of the battery.

If you have the ER battery and your commute isn't that long you could also set up the after work go time: "I want to leave for home at 4:30pm, set to 'warm'". (If you leave at different times of the day you can always use the app to remote start the car to warm it up.)

Since its an EV you can leave the garage closed...no fumes ;)

The Focus Electric had this feature (was called "go time" for the Focus). I had it setup so that the cabin would be 80F at 7am every weekday morning. It was awesome. If it happened to be sitting outside with a fresh snowfall on it the 80F cabin would melt all the snow off of it.

The really cool thing about this is that you set it up once and it does it every day. You don't have to remember...its just toasty warm getting in the car in the morning.

(Of course in the Summer I'd switch it up so the A/C is on instead.)
Alternatively, if your schedule isn’t that regular you could just turn on climate control from your phone when you start packing up to leave. That should heat/cool the interior and condition the battery for driving.

That's what I'll be trying to do. The challenge will be remembering each time.

I’ve used that approach for our Leaf when I remember. The better feature the Mach E has if’s the ability to open all windows. This is a low energy way of cooling the car in the summer as you walk out.
