It will only work if the jump starter has a mode that allows you to override the safety function that checks for the presence of 12V before supplying power. I can’t tell if that one does, but I don’t see a button for it.
Thank you.
So dead 12V battery in Mach-E is so dead that the jumper can't detect it? Ouch.

I would call Ford Roadside Assistance.

The leads in the bumper never have voltage on them, regardless of whether or not your 12V battery is dead. But your 12V battery has to be dead for them to pop the frunk with an external power source.

It really is over-engineered for a problem that could have been solved with a simple key cylinder (and would be more reliable).

Storing it in the vehicle only does you good if the 12V battery died with the doors unlocked. If the doors are locked when it died, then you're going to have to make a phone call (unless you have a string backup).

I keep mine in my ICE car, and can call a family member to bring it to me in a situation. Worst case I might need a ride and will have to come back with the jump pack later.
Yes ? thank you Lee, it’s still there I forgotten about it cause you can’t see it outside the car.

If someone is coming to rescue you, wouldn’t a set of jumper cables work just as well?

Well, a couple of threads indicated something about having a button on the jump starter. I thought when I bought this, this would be enough considering what it says it will jumpstart so my question is is this not going to work? I haven’t had the opportunity to try it I suppose I could disconnect the battery cable, and see if it does it ?

See my 12V FAQ about jump packs. Not all types will work.

question… I thought the doors, front at least, had super capacitors that stored enough electricity to open the door in the event the 12v battery died. Is that understanding incorrect? For purposes of my question, let’s presume no software malfunction interfering with the doors.
Thanks
They have super capacitors, but they only open the door from the outside if it was unlocked when the 12V died. They remember their lock state.

I'm thinking of buying a GooLoo jump starter in case of dead battery lockout and/or just plain old dead 12V battery. But then I go to thinking: where do I keep it? If I keep it in the car and I can't get into the car, it doesn't do me much good. If I keep it in the garage and the car has problems on the road, it doesn't do me any good. If I keep it in my other car, it can help me if that car needs a jump start, but it won't help with the MME unless I can get my other car to where the MME is stranded. So: what does everyone else do with their jump starters?
This is a conundrum because if you lose power to the doors, then having it in the car doesn’t help.

If it’s in your garage it will only help if the battery dies at home.

Given those circumstances, I would keep it in the Frunk if the car.

Most likely you would be in the car, and you could pull the frunk handle.

If you are in a remote area, out of the car, you could smash a window to get access.

If not in a remote area, I would just call a service station for a jump.

If people with EVs carry a recommended jumper pack we can help each other. When I was boating, our forum expert advised what spare parts and tools were most needed for our small outboard cruisers. He reminded us non-mechanicals that if we had the parts and tools more able boaters could help us.

Probably better since many jumper packs will not apply voltage absent a battery on the circuit and there is no way to tell if the person coming to help is bringing one that can override that or not. ?‍♂?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Given that the jump starter is likely to be someplace where it isn't so useful (e.g., in the garage if I'm stranded away from home, or in the frunk if I can't get into it, etc.) I'm starting to wonder if I should just save my money and trust that nothing happens where I would need it -- or call for service from Ford or AAA, if I do. Whaddaya think?

That's my take. Ford Roadside Assistance is FREE for 5 years. They'll jump you, if you can get them into the battery (which you should know how to). If it's not dead, but weak, most tow drivers can get into the vehicle without breaking the window, and then you pull the latch and give them access to the battery to CHARGE IT UP.

Correct, that is the best choice of action considering 12V issues are relatively rare for most people and you already have roadside included.

Thanks for the response.

I may get a NoCo with its override button, or not. Even with one, as so many others have noted, it begs the question of where to keep it.
