Thanks for the quick and supportive replies! I looked at the Tesla Y (seems like a lower price until you try to finance it, then Tesla has huge APR and money facto), Subaru Solterra (lousy range), EV6 (ugly, cheap feeling, and not cheaper cost), ID4 (lousy range).

This forum hasn't been fully of haters, but tons on YT and other internet sources.

I'm not a big road tripper, so public charging isn't an issue for me.

I hear Telsa isn't very well built.

A few follow-up questions.

Is the HVBJB a problem with '23s or just earlier? Is it a problem for all cars or just some?
You’ll be fine with the CR1, if you believe Ford. Apparently only the ER AWD, GT, and GTPE can produce enough power to irreparably damage the HVBJB.

I love our GTPE. Stupid fast and fun to drive. Instant acceleration allows for turning between smaller gaps and I ever imagined. PAAK works very well, even on cutting edge Pixel 8 Pro. Sync occasionally freezes and reboots. Brake pedal sometimes acts funky when starting (stays hard for a while then goes "soft" when brake assist kicks in). So not perfect, but issues are trivial.

Adaptive cruise control sometimes sees a phantom car in front of me, but I'm gonna have that looked at under warranty service.

The CR1 and RWD ER are great daily cars that will be ignored online for the most part. Not the fastest not the fanciest. But they’ll be great cars, and the unsung hero. Because the people who buy them arnt looking to meet or beat advertised specs and expectations.

The GTPE and GT’s are being compared to performance editions of other EV’s. So the bar is constantly raised by those. Ford under delivered on and earth shattering car that they never promised. But a lot of online presence (my self included) expected the GTPE to be a GT500 and to at least hold its own with performance Teslas, which it doesn’t. There’s a lot more Tesla fans out there because there’s a lot more Teslas out there. So there’s a lot more people that look down on the car.

The first few years of the Model S and Roadster were not phenomenal for Tesla but there was nothing to compare them to.

Crossed the country 2x solo, 22k miles....all good, love the Blue Cruise, good comfort, and lots of fun. I frankly took a flyer on the MMe with no real use reviews in early 2021 and have been extremely happy.

2022 Premium, May build..supposedly with HVBJB problem, but...26,000 miles ZERO problems. This is my favorite car EVER. I love everything about it, looks, tech, ride, cost, low maintenance, seats, interior and exterior materials, my Frunk button, the Infotainment system INCLUDING wireless Car Play, highway fast charging speed. I'm sure other people have had problems with their Mach Es, it's impossible to manufacture without issues, but I can tell you, maybe I'm just lucky...but I haven't had a single problem, nor a single gripe and I plan to keep my Mach E forever. Best of luck with yours...enjoy the heck out of it. AND as soon as I can afford a Lightening? Well that's going into the garage next to the Mach E! That's how much I love Ford's EVs.

Don’t worry about it. 21 job 1 here. 32k miles. Had plenty of warranty work done, even lemoned it with retention. Still really like the car.

I get where your coming from. As someone who travels 25 or so weeks per year I rent a lot of vehicles. All of them have quirks even the Tesla M3 and MY I have rented do so odd things.

Americans are all about marketing even when it's not true. Ford has a reputation or being mediocre and I think people see something they don't like and it confirms their preconceived notion. Another company could have the same response and people seem more forgiving for some reason.

It's odd, grass I greener I guess.

When I bought my MME I knew it was fords first effort in the EV space and my expectations were it's going to have great fit and finish but have some ford is new to the EV space related problems.

Guess people expected perfection and they are disappointed

Remember that people tend to post on forums and youtube when they have problems or issues. Also there's a lot of clickbait out there encouraging you to view their videos with outlandish titles.

We had a Tesla Model Y AWD and traded it in for a BMW i4 40eDrive earlier this year after getting our MME Premium AWD just a year ago. Tesla (google phantom breaking). We've been very happy with our MME.

If someone’s actually buying a non-Tesla, EV, I highly doubt he/she is going to hate it.

Non-Tesla EV owners are generally fairly well informed about the risks and benefits of owning one.

I don’t think they’re crapping on the car itself. The most common issue is the brand behind the car, lack of good service centers, and prevalent HVBJB (thermal) failure that is imminent.

And these days, MME owners are furious because their cars that they paid out of their noses during the pandemic are now worth nothing. The main reason for that is just the market forces not workout out for EVs.

Actually all used car prices are bombing and those who bought new cars in 2020-2022 and want to sell / trade are absolutely screwed. Especially EV owners.

21 GTPE, have had HVJB failure early in ownership, have had a suspension fault fixed by module update, have had a voltage sensor replaced in the rear motor. Other than that, car has been flawless (bugs not withstanding) in 18k miles. The MME is a great car, people don’t like things they don’t understand. There is the whole Mustang name thing, and also people have their biases.
The Mustang purists hate that this thing is called a Mustang. Also, my friends who are car guys like me, they have never experienced an EV so there is this uneducated bias that exists. First question I get asked, "How much is it going to be to replace the battery pack?" My response is, "Well, the Charger Hellcat I traded in for this thing, guess how much that engine costs to replace?" No follow up question after that. Obviously, that is not a normal apples to apples conversation, but that is my scenario. MME GTPE is fantastic, no ragrets! ;)

I test drove a Tesla Y one week before I bought my Mach E. I test drove a Mach E (not the one I bought) right before the Tesla Y test drive. BLUF: the Mach E has better finish, much better interior design, looks WAYYYY more sexy and the Tesla rattled while under way whereas the Mach E doesn't. Guess which car I bought afterward? ...now with over 52k miles on my odo and very happy.

2021 GT-PE with 14K miles. The only issue I had with it was the HVBJB. I was prepared for that, but not prepared for the service department at the dealer I left it at to completely ghost me and then tell me that my car was done the day before I went there in person to find out if they even started working on it (nothing to do with the car or Ford, just that specific dealer's service advisor). Your car is much less likely to be affected by this issue. ??

OK, I lied. There was one more issue, which stems from the videos of Ford personnel beating the tar out of the GT-PE on the track with a tag line of "So fast it made me sick!" The car is quick but nowhere near fast. It's also only quick for a maximum of 5 seconds. Your car is not affected by this issue either. ?‍♂?
