'22 CaR1 rear drive here, 32 K miles and I just love the car. One thing I like about the R1 that's not often mentioned is the ride from the cushier 18" rims and high profile tires. Test drove a MachE GT while doing my research, and while I loved the performance, I found the ride a bit rough for my taste, and even with the rear drive and cushier tires my R1 corners better than my '05 Mustang GT did. My car was built just before they started putting the more robust HVBJB in at the factory, but I don't climb mountains, I rarely flog the car wide open throttle and medium-rarely fast charge so I'm pretty confident I'll be okay until the new HVBJB becomes available (he said, fingers crossed...).

I've been driving a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, but recently had the urge to get a full EV. I did my research (I'm someone who researched the s#%$ out of everything I buy) and just leased (at a great rate) a California Rte. 1 (saved me more than $3K over the Premium with only a few better options missing that I didn't care about) for about $3000 under MSRP). I'm going to save about $15K over three years in reduced monthly payments, fuel costs, and maintenance.

I've only had the car for a week, but I love it! It's fun to drive, fast, comfortable, well appointed, I love the tech, and it looks great (compared to comparable EVs).

I watched a lot of Youtube videos before I got my Mach-E comparing it with Tesla Y, Kia EV6, etc. The general conclusion of the majority of videos is negative. I don't get it.

I realize that the Mach-E has had some problems in their early iterations of the car (as any new car will have, particularly an EV) and it still does. At the same time, can anyone explain why there are so many haters and why people think the Mach-E is so bad?
I love my Mustang Mach E (and it’s a 2021 Job 1). I bought my car, knowing full well there would be growing pains for both me and the car, and it’s honestly been the most fun car I’ve ever had. I would hate to go back to an ICE car. I just hope that there are significant advances in the next generation vehicle.

The Mach-E is one of the few EVs that has deep CarPlay integration that reports the state of charge to the iPhone. This was a key feature I wanted.

Besides the bouncy suspension, the car is quite good.

Love my car, a 22’ Extended Range RWD with about 73 000 km on it.

As people say (and as I am faulty of myself), people are more likely to post / share when issues. That being said, it’s not fair to say that those people are trolls or just complain for the sake of complaining. I’ll illustrate this by summarizing my history:

Bought car at end of 21’ and received it march 22’. At time of writing my car has been on two recalls, one for the high voltage box thingy and one for the parking brake that could brick the car too. Now car is at dealer again with what is likely the second voltage box that bricks. Am I unlucky more than the norm - maybe. Then again, a friend of mine (which I recommended the car to) has had the same recalls as me and last week had a similar error as me. Luckily that went away, but we are not confident that it won’t return.

Again, I don’t know the real stats for the car as a whole across the world, but the % or cars with issues seems a bit high when taking into account the step price we payed for it. At same time it’s not just doom and gloom, we love our cars when they work and I intend to have it from cradle to death (long as possible).

I think the "crapping on Mach E" is going to mostly/only come from YouTube reviewers. It's their job to nitpick though they make valid points such as:
  • the HVBJB issue that Ford has allowed to linger in the air
  • charging network issues (not really the vehicle's fault but it doesn't help)
  • charging curve/speed vs 800 volt vehicles
  • lack of QOL features vs competitors such as heat pump, ventilated seats, V2L
  • immature software/lacking infotainment hardware (screen lag)/OTA updates
  • 5 second rule
  • poor dealership experience
I enjoy the MME's looks and driving feel, and I haven't had too many issues with charging on trips. IRL, I've only had positive interactions with other EV owners who compliment the looks of the Mach E. ICE Mustangs have been friendly and interested in learning more about it.

Outside of the HVBJB and heat pump issues, these issues aren't especially difficult to live with for first time EV owners like myself. I will say I've been to the dealer 4 times in my 1.5 years of ownership, 2 of which were for software issues. Hunting one down when every dealer was charging 20K over sticker wasn't fun either.

When you combine these issues with the price point depending on the trim level, this makes for an easy recommendation to take the easy route and just go with a Tesla or look at a competitor such as the EV6 so you're at least getting the latest technology available for about the same price..

2022 premium. Only issue was wind noise from driver side mirror and applied the fix mentioned in the forum. Huge savings in cost of gas by Charging at home, have only paid $75 on public chargers In the last 12 months/12000km. Love the car and it is Fun to drive, Plan to keep it for at least 8 years.

Thanks for the quick and supportive replies! I looked at the Tesla Y (seems like a lower price until you try to finance it, then Tesla has huge APR and money facto), Subaru Solterra (lousy range), EV6 (ugly, cheap feeling, and not cheaper cost), ID4 (lousy range).

This forum hasn't been fully of haters, but tons on YT and other internet sources.

I'm not a big road tripper, so public charging isn't an issue for me.

I hear Telsa isn't very well built.

A few follow-up questions.

Is the HVBJB a problem with '23s or just earlier? Is it a problem for all cars or just some?
Quality issues prior to 2023. Lots of upgradescand improvements onthe new modelY AWD long range we bought in Apr. Fit and finish on dely was checked everything perfect. Paint was extremely well sprayed . Upgraded acoustic glass, seats, brakes, new susp rides nicely over slight uneven road surfaces, very little noise in cabin. 3 camera screen view of rear left and right no need to use mirrors. Turn signals also activate camera. We test drove it for a. hour and 20 miles. GTPE still has better susp, brakes, seats and very silent driving but at $53000 -MSRP $72500 in addition full tax credit costing us $45500.
Very impressed at this price. Got custom gray paint 20 black rims. Wife gave me the GTPE and loves the minimalism of the y. So far 6500 miles no problems.

You are, of course, correct.

I didn’t mean everybody fits those profiles though those that do tend to skew the true picture along with the higher propensity for people to tell the world of their problems rather than things that work well?

Had the windscreen and pano roof recall done, oh, and that e-call recall that delayed collection a couple of weeks from the outset, and the park brake harness failure but I won’t let that all spoil my life?

The crook Johnson welched on the £3,000 EV grant deal he promised along with all the other lies he ever told and the promises he broke but Ford paid that, and Ford paid for the broken screen when they recalled car for screen and pano so I am still well in credit with Ford?

Over 70,000 miles of smiles and another 500 or so coming up this week.

The CR1 and RWD ER are great daily cars that will be ignored online for the most part. Not the fastest not the fanciest. But they’ll be great cars, and the unsung hero. Because the people who buy them arnt looking to meet or beat advertised specs and expectations.

The GTPE and GT’s are being compared to performance editions of other EV’s. So the bar is constantly raised by those. Ford under delivered on and earth shattering car that they never promised. But a lot of online presence (my self included) expected the GTPE to be a GT500 and to at least hold its own with performance Teslas, which it doesn’t. There’s a lot more Tesla fans out there because there’s a lot more Teslas out there. So there’s a lot more people that look down on the car.

The first few years of the Model S and Roadster were not phenomenal for Tesla but there was nothing to compare them to.
wish I'd kept my 21 standard range rwd over the GTPE I traded it for last month.

The latest Consumer Reports rated the “Mach E” significantly below the Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and several other EV SUVs, including the MY. Score seemed to mostly be dinged by a very negative “predicted reliability” score.

I don’t put much stock in CR anyone - I feel like I often have much more experience with certain products than they do - but there is clearly something(s) being reported that are dinging this score, and I doubt it’s entirely the HVBJB which has now been recalled.

Anyway, as I said, I’ve been super happy with my First Edition Extended AWD Premium model. Ford’s software deficiencies are quite annoying, but I still prefer the interior and exterior to comparably prices EV SUVs.

I think the only place people are crapping on MMEs is San Francisco. Well, maybe Portland also.

22 CR1 RWD here. I wanted to ditto many of the comments in response to your questions, but I’ll simply say: 2 years, 32,000 miles and no serious problems. Best car I’ve owned in more than 50 years of buying cars for family use. EV benefits are everything I expected. I couldn’t go back to ICE cars.

I don't get this. The car has a 8y/100k mile battery and motor warranty. You can get a 8y/100k Bumper to bumper extended warranty for 1.5k. So reliability shouldn't be too much of a concern.

One thing rarely discussed is ride quality. Tesla and some of the others are just horrible. The mache is as smooth as glass. And I have a performance edition. Imho only the mache and the Ioniq5 have ride quality that make them acceptable. Tesla is a pure nightmare.
