I have a 22 GT. My dealer just emailed a nice looking 2025 GT with a racing stripe. I think I could be persuaded to re-up for a 2025/26 as my jumbo lease is coming due in less than a year but not if they still are going to have the 5s limit…. What’s the latest on this whole debate?

Short answer is No on existing cars. But I think the 2025 have a little longer before it cuts out.

The latest??

There is no new info for the 2021-2023 models.

The story? Ford was dishonest and eventually completely lied to us.

They advertised it as a track car.

They didn’t disclose the limit in the US for years.

They buried the limit in a tiny hidden disclosure on a European website

They eventually had it on a FAQ hidden deep on the Us website that also went away.

Their VP told us they would “change the limit” when asked about existing cars, and never did.

They STILL never disclosed how much power the car even loses (unlike every other manufacturer with an advertised boost mode). (Kinda suprised no lawsuit).

Since no one seemed to fight Ford hard on these issues, we all basically gave up hope.

Is there a chance still? Sure, maybe it’s still in the plan. But since it’s taken 2 years to roll out BC 1.3, I have serious doubts it’s high up on the priority list.

As far as I know, there’s no hardware reason that 2021-2023 ER cars can’t get the latest ER charging curve, and the GTs can’t get at least a revised acceleration limit.

24s and later model years don’t have a 5-sec limit. There’s no debate. It’s settled.

Seeing as how the 24 and 25 don't have a 5s limit, there has to be some reason it exists on previous model years. Whether it's wiring, battery, or motor related, who knows. But I doubt the 5s limit ever goes away on prior year vehicles. It would have already been done by now. Probably should be a class action lawsuit, truth be told.

I can add some independent data to the comments that have already been posted. Car & Driver have performance tested a 2021 GT Performance Edition and a 2024 Rally Edition. You can see the details at their site, scroll down pretty far for the testing results:
https://www.caranddriver.com/ford/mustang-mach-e

NB: use the dropdown at the top of the screen to filter by year (use MY 2022 to get the 2021 GTPE performance results and 2024 or 2025 to see the 2024 Rally Edition results).

The key data related to your question:

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E4X GT Performance Edition
C/D TEST RESULTS

60 mph: 3.7 sec
100 mph: 12.4 sec
1/4-Mile: 12.7 sec @ 101 mph
Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.3 sec.

2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally

C/D TEST RESULTS
60 mph: 3.3 sec
100 mph: 8.5 sec
1/4-Mile: 11.8 sec @ 113 mph
120 mph: 13.9 sec
Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.3 sec.

As you can see above, the 0-60 time is improved but it's the incredible 4.1 second(!) improvement in 0-100 times that indicate the power cutout limit has been raised far above where anyone should notice on public streets. (The 1/4 mile time and speed is also much improved.)

I will definitely notice the 0-100 difference on a public road. I guess I should go test drive a 2024.

The 2024 and newer have a limiter that kicks in later. It kicks in after the car completes the quarter, but at least it’ll perform as a strip car. It still won’t track since the limiter still exists. It’s just a softer, gentler limiter. ??

I’ll notice the difference as well. I’m sure the speed from 50-80 MPH is also better.

C&D tests 30-50 and 50-70 times, and interestingly the 30-50 times are identical but the 2024 Rally is a little slower in the 50-70. Possibly it makes up for it between 70-80 (or between 80 and 100), possibly it's a mistake or oversight of some kind.

Went and drove a 2024 at 100%, external temp of 54F. I used Car Scanner and best I got was 4.8 to 60.
The first couple of run I got 4.2 because of too much wheel spin. I had to roll on the throttle a little more gently for the 3.8.

The limiter on the 2021-2023 cars first starts kicking in at 73 mph and is full force at 80 mph (unless the car has seen a significant amount of high throttle % and high regen activity prior to getting to 73, then it starts kicking in earlier). So from a cruise, you should not see much difference until after 70 on a 2024+ GT with the PU. ??
