Will the doors open without power?

I read a recent news article about Tesla that caught fire after an accident. The doors couldn't be opened because they required the battery to work, and people died. Will a Mach-e door open without the battery? From what I read the Tesla doors have a separate latch which is difficult to find.

No, but every little bit counts.

But not at the expense of being able to, you know, open doors without having to press a button 3-4 times or making sure you pull ALL the way back (whatever that means) on a door handle to get out. This is the only vehicle I have ever owned that my passengers and I have struggled to get in and out of.

And the $10 in electricity I (maybe) save is not going to be worth it when it will cost $800 to replace a door module that will inevitably fail.

Buttons in place of handles. Is. Just. Dumb....

Not arguing with you there. Something similar to the ‘69-‘72 Grand Prix door handles I posted earlier would solve both issues. ?‍?

I notice you didn't show the stupid, stupid rear door design where you have to release the hidden latch to then pull on a loop? What the hell?

Or this beautiful design decision:

As I understand it, our front latches will mechanically open if we pull the level far enough back...

But our rear doors don't even have a HIDDEN mechanical means of opening.

Even WORSE than the Tesla. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You can open the rear doors, but the manual says you have to " just pull the lever on the armrest all the way, " , but I'm not sure why that is different than pulling the lever as normal. Wouldn't you always pull the lever 'all the way'? Either way, this system is still dumb.

The interior lever I have no problems with…seems like a handle to me.

The button on the outside….i mean it’s fine, until your battery is dead. Then it’s not fine at all.

You can try this yourself. Get in the car, close the door. Pull the lever slowly until it opens. It’s about 1/3 of a pull. You don’t need to pull it all the way back. You can. That’s up to you, but you don’t have to. However, in an emergency, just pull the handle back fully and it’ll open - like you’re already used to. Not dumb, it’s extremely intuitive and guests figure it out pretty quick.

Hard to do if your unconscious because of an accident.

If someone needs to rescue an unconscious person in an EV or really in any car, and the door doesn't open (because doors lock), break the glass and open the door from the inside.

The accident the original poster is talking about was a Tesla. It started on fire after an accident. Bystanders were trying to break the glass without success and sadly 4 people died.

Not dumb, it’s extremely intuitive and guests figure it out pretty quick.

My 'dumb' comment was directed more at the electric opening system in general. Again, I've never seen someone struggle/try to figure out a regular door handle.
