Wirelessly?
Yes, I use it like that all the time as well. I'm pretty sure the car connection/wifi limitation is an apple specific thing. You can't have both on at the same time.

Interesting, I mean it’s using the Wi-Fi radio and Bluetooth, maybe the galaxy has 2 Wi-Fi radios

Have y’all noticed the YouTube app got an update? It’s a lot faster and smoother than before. I don’t know which PowerUp updated it, but I like it. I noticed today after 4.2.3, but I haven’t used the YouTube app since before 4.2.2.

Unfortunately the Canadian market is left out in the cold for some reason, and we still do not have access to YouTube.

I can understand not including the other media news apps due to licensing of US content in Canada, but blocking YouTube??? What gives @Ford of Canada and @Ford Motor Company ?? Why block access to YouTube for Canadians particularly when this is FREE PUBLIC CONTENT that is accessible by any browser, and we are not talking about something like Netflix that requires specific licensing??

Maybe a bit off topic but it got me curious, so I did a bit of research on this.

I would be VERY surprised if they included multiple WiFi chips. Someone smarter than I can correct me here but I think you can have multiple WiFi connections in the same way you can connect to multiple Bluetooth devices at once. Though usually that's not something you wanna do so it's software limited.

So I suspect it's a software lockout. That being said iPhone uses a proprietary WiFi chip while Galaxy uses one from Qualcomm. So who knows

Yawn. Ford can spend resources messing around with YouTube but after 2 years, we still don’t have a frunk release? ?

You’re not missing anything. It looks much better on an iPhone or an iPad anyway.

I have a carplay AI box that I use for Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime, etc.. in the vehicle if I need entertainment. But what bugs me is being treated differently than the rest of the market, with missing features that are offered elsewhere, particularly when the capability is already there. I've actually confirmed for myself that YouTube works on the MME with a hacky workaround that was posted a while back. Essentially the vehicle already has a browser, and the vehicle already has the ability to play YouTube videos as there are no issues with DRM and licensing of media. So why not just add what Essentially amounts to a browser shortcut to YouTube when all the functionality is already there???

I'm confused about what you're asking for. The YouTube app has been in the MME since last fall, and it's basically what you're describing (shortcut on the Sync screen that launches YouTube in a very lightweight browser container that's locked down).

Edit: Sorry, I just noticed your previous comment about being in Canada.

I had to disable CarPlay (in the Mach E) to be able to get it to connect to my iPhone hotspot.

I don’t know if that’s a one-time thing or if I have to disable it every time. Kind of a hassle.

Good to hear the app has been updated and is better. It was effectively unusable. It could play videos just fine but attempting to find them and start watching was unbearable.

I’ll have to try it again.
Just use wired carplay. It’s better for a multitude of reasons.

I do because I hate the lag. But the fact that wireless was enabled on the car was enough to prevent it from using my phone as a hotspot, connected in any way or not.

No idea why.

Yeah the lag is unacceptable, not sure why people put up with it, and it’s not a MachE thing either.

You have to completely remove wireless CarPlay as an option by unpairing your phone from Bluetooth (this won’t remove your PaaK settings don’t worry).

What lag? Most people don’t watch movies with CarPlay so latency isn’t that big of a deal
