And the reasoning is the short part where he talks about the urethane not sticking?

Definitely understand and agree with the reason to get this done, just don’t like the thought of my car being taken apart. It will be my first car to go through something like this so really nervous.

His commentary that there's not enough adhesive. I also have wind noise issues so hoping a new windshield helps in that department.

Take out the entire headliner? Why?

This guy needs some video 101 classes. God that was hard to watch.
Max with his 8 YouTube subscribers and 3 views on this video prior to tonight is probably wondering why his views jumped to over 300 this evening. Maybe we should chip in for some SkillShare classes on taking videos prior to him doing a video on the Pano roof removal.

I wonder if I can get the dealer to let me stop by and run the wires for my dashcam while the headliner is out.

After watching, I believe I don't want to put my car in dealer's hand. I will live with it as-is, until I am ready to trade in for next.
FYI my dealer (and prob most) is subbing this out to a glass and windshield company. Scheduled next week… ??

Let me describe what's going on because the video sucks:

A string cutting tool is being set up to cut the urethane seal around the windshield so the windshield can be removed without damage and reused per the recall. The tool uses a continuous loop of string with hand-winches on each end of the string to draw it in. Drawing the string through the sealant will cut it similar to how a wire cheese cutter works.
  1. Interior and exterior trim around the windshield has been removed.
  2. The heater wires at the bottom passenger side of the windshield have been disconnected and tied up out of the way of the string.
  3. The string tool is suctioned to the inside of the windshield and the winches are released.
  4. A poker tool is used to grab a loop of string and poke it through the seal at the bottom of the windshield. It is suggested to do this over the VIN plate so the string doesn't catch on the edges around the VIN plate as it's being drawn.
  5. The string is pulled out through the passage in the sealant and tucked under the outside lip of the windshield so it makes a loop all the way around the edge of the windshield and the two ends return inside to the winch.
  6. The winch is carefully tightened by hand, thereby pulling the string through the windshield sealant from the outside to the inside. It is not recommend to use power tools so resistance can be felt and addressed before it causes damage.
  7. Care is taken near the top corners to redirect the string past the standoffs so it doesn't get caught on them.
  8. The tool is repositioned to the right side of the windshield so the cutting can be finished on that side.
  9. The process is complete when the entire loop of string has been pulled inside through the sealant.
  10. The windshield is now loose and can be removed.

Mine is scheduled for Valentine’s Day (dealer said he can only schedule one of these per week!) and also has a crack in the windshield which they have to replace the windshield at the same time. Looking at the video, I can only imagine the work to take out the sunroof, isn’t there also a reseal job on top? Scary work.
