Has anyone noticed such chargers already installed at their dealership or any Ford Dealerships? I have not at my small town local dealership. This was suppose to be part of the deal to be a Ford EV seller/dealer.

Our dealership has two Level-2 chargers, they've been there since 2012. I don't think they have any L3's, however.

The dealer EV Certification program for Ford Dealers has been around at least since then (a dealer had to be EV certified to sell the Focus Electric, and, I think, any of the Energi models).

Pre-COVID-19 I believe the dealers had until the end of September to install two chargers.

Was DC fast charging even part of the deal or just a couple of Ford Connected Charge Stations (48A level 2)?

Seems like even a single 50kW charging station would be a great way to introduce new owners as to how you charge it on the road and a couple of 48A chargers for day to day stuff.

The minimum requirement was to have 2 L2 chargers. One for the service department and one customer facing for sales. The dealer could install as many more as they see fit, after meeting the minimum of 2.

I agree if the dealers had L3 charging that would be awesome. Adding 2,000 more fast chargers would be a good backup plan for road trips. Maybe some of the mega stores in high traffic areas could install L3 on their own, I suspect most dealers won’t due to the upfront costs.

Some GM/Chevy dealerships in Michigan have installed 25kW Level 3 chargers at their locations while others have 240V chargers. Ford dealerships have installed 240V chargers in the past but with the upcoming Mach E, BEV F-150 and others, will some dealerships install Level 3 chargers?

Level 3 chargers would be great but if installed inside the service department, how is one going to access them while road traveling?

@hybrid2bev, on a separate note if you guys really want to sell a lot of these things you should really encourage dealers to offer the MME as a service loaner. Easy to keep charged by the service department and a great introduction to the vehicle to people who may not initially be interested in an electric vehicle not to mention nobody has to fuss with returning the car with a full tank.

Exactly. I think anyone expecting US dealerships to provide a whole network of L3 charging stations is engaging in wishful thinking. A few may just to go above and beyond, but there's very little justification for that cost. For the same reason dealerships don't usually act as retail gas stations either.

BEVs are a very tiny share of their sales. Most Ford dealerships won't even sell more than 5 all year.

I agree that a great way to get more people interested in EVs is to have them drive one.

But I feel that the supply/demand ratio is not going to support putting a MME into the FCTP. I think we’ll sell every MME that can be made for a couple years so there won’t be any extras lurking on dealer lots. So the point is that the MME is expensive and in limited quantities. If someone smashes an Escape or Fusion FCTP the dealer will typically have 100 more on the lot to easily replace it with. I don’t think that will be the case with the MME. Plus I don’t see Ford wanting to sell the MME at a discount for having been a FCTP unit.

Have MME available for test drives... yeah that should happen all day long, for sure. Loners, eh I don’t think so.

I’ve spent far more time charging at Nissan dealerships’ L3 chargers than I did shopping for or buying my Leaf. Gave me a chance to look at the new models.

I think DC charging at the dealerships is going to be limited because many dont have the electric supply equipment necessary to power those things. Those that do will be KW limited I am pretty sure. Not much benefit IMO....

Interesting: That ChargeHub appears to be a North-America only crowd sourced charge station finder (amongst other things) much like PlugShare (although PlugShare is worldwide). Appears to have been started in Canada back in 2012.

Plug share is more up-to date especially when listing Ford dealerships with L2 charging.
