Any advantage to ordering the extra fob in advance and having the dealer program it when the car is delivered vs just taking care of it whenever we get around to it?

For me they programmed the fob I supplied when I took delivery. Was crazy easy and nice to have the second fob - which new we’ve used many times.

I purchased an extra FOB online well before delivery, I brought it with me when I picked up the car and the dealer programmed it free of charge while I did paperwork. Unlike @back_at_it_19 though, I've never once used it. It sits in a Faraday bag inside our house.

I've found it is difficult (and expensive) to have the second fob programmed after the fact. Third party locksmiths couldn't do it, and four Ford dealerships charged one hour of labor.

A big advantage would be if you could somehow negotiate for them to throw that in at the time of purchase. And you wouldn't have to take the time to leave the car later.

Yup, bring it to the dealer ahead of time and ask them to program it during the dealer prep. My dealer said they were going to charge me for it, but they didn't.

If you order the extra fob in advance you don't have the opportunity to try PaaK for yourself and see that the updates have made PaaK so reliable you don't need another fob.

The dealer programmed this generic fob for me and it works. Notice it does not open the trunk. Sold it to me for $75, when I brought the car in because Paak and modem stopped working.

That is the same thing that I'm dealing with. One dealer can do it through their Quick Lane, but it was going to be a several-hour ordeal by the time my turn came up. A local locksmith said $275 to just program the fob that I provide (nope). I have six dealers in town, and they all are being jackasses about it. I can schedule an appointment 4 weeks from now to have it programmed, though.

I just tossed it in my glove box, and if I happen to be at the dealer, I'll get it done. If you can get it done at delivery, that is probably the easiest path. I'm not going to get in the PaaK debate, but I'd like to have a second key.

True this.

I’ve never used the extra fob I bought. In fact I used the one that came with the car the very first time on Tuesday when I took the car to the detailer for its ceramic coating. I did that to test to make sure the fob worked before I dropped the car off.

Anyone get an extra key fob programmed in DFW area? I called Autonation Ford Frisco and they said that it will be $155 to program. Just wondering if anyone gotten it done cheaper?

Same here, but they charged me a lot more than that.

Congrats!

This one is complete and OEM original (right buttons and blank key)

https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/2020-ford-mustang-smart-remote-164-r8159.html

Dealer code gets you down to $73 with shipping, best deal around right now for new.
This seems like the better deal to me ?‍♂ :
This ebay seller has units that seem correct (right FCC ID and part number):

https://www.ebay.com/itm/284269197881?fits=Model:Mustang&hash=item422fc3ba39:g:COAAAOSwNzlggvSo

$57 before tax, free shipping. It doesn't show the key blade in the picture, but the text claims that it is included. I just ordered so can confirm when it shows up!
