i wouldn’t be surprised if that is where part of the cost is. They will need to periodically traverse over some of these roadways again and have someone watch out for construction notices being done on them.
Sure. This is why it’s a subscription. You want the maps to be continually updated.

It really is amazing how even sound dampening can keep you going and not drain you on long trips. My wife had a 2018 Nissan Rogue which by all accounts was a great car, but good God was that thing loud driving back and forth to NC from FL. I have tinnitus and it would just wear me down, I'd have to turn the music and podcasts up to hear them, etc. She's not the type of person that would really realize the noise difference, until now that she traded it in for a Volvo and realized how quiet it is at highway speeds.

That and how much better a heavy vehicle feels for daily use. It just dampens out the bumps in the road so much better and feels so much more solid.

My number one priority in finding an SUV since I need one now is noise level, and have to get rid of my Fusion that is super quiet. I was more than happy with the sound deadening in the Mach E I rented, it's as quiet as my fusion which days a lot when the rear wheels are in the cabin with you.
As someone who has profound hearing loss in both ears and requires the most powerful type of hearing aids to hear, it was shocking to me how much better I could hear in this car at highway speeds. Majority of the time I catch every word my wife says now.

when my car was in the shop getting fixed and I had to go back to using the ICE, it was crazy how much it killed my enjoyment of driving a car. I really hope manufacturers start focusing on cabin noise more. I’m thinking about looking into what else I could do to dampen road noise in my MME now.

So if the advantage is that I can take my hands off the wheel, but still have to be vigilant, then what is the value here? I would totally get this if I could find the value beyond keeping my hands down vs on the wheel. I figure I'm missing some important detail.
You can hold your big burger with both hands and eat it more easily! Seriously, that is a big enough benefit for some and I have been troubled by it while trying to eat and drive at the same time.

I haven't read the reviews yet. But I am also assuming that for a few seconds, you can take your eyes off to do something else.

Oh my God man; take out those hearing aids when your in the car with the wife. Do you know how many of us wish we couldn't hear our wife in the car.

I do! But that helps me maintain a constant speed and it is a built-in function with no extra cost.
there was a time when that “built-in function with no extra cost” was an option that a buyer had to pay money for. ?‍♂ With time, it’s very likely that these driver assistance features will become standard equipment on most, if not all, cars.

I don't mean to call out or pick on @nmundo explicitly, but I can't believe how often wording like this:

Gets turned into this:

I see the word "promise" used here all the time with respect to qualified statements from Ford, and while Ford clearly intends to put that functionality in it is far from a guarantee. It may not happen due to technical, legal, or other reasons.

Your car has the hardware but you'll have to pay $600 for the software/service
PLUS annual fees!!!! BS to make this such an expensive requirement (yeah, i know, part of an ( not so) optional package

How much does it rely on the pre mapped data and how often is that updated? Not too long ago they shut down I-70 here for a weekend in Denver and completely changed the way the road went and has gone for the last 40-50 years. Looks like I-70 would be a mapped road based on that picture
Updated by crowd sourcing. I suspect they used a baseline map then continue to update with car data from Ford, Nissan, BMW, etc..., cars that use the same system.

the software to activate the system's full functionality is about to roll out during the third quarter of this year.
Sooo August or September, I hope. ?

Oh come on.

You ever try annotating a map using Microsoft Paint, your toes (it's a hands-free map), and the wrong pair of eyeglasses? It's not easy.

CNET: “It will function if the driver is wearing eithersunglasses or a mask, but it won't operate if both are worn simultaneously, as the camera doesn't have much face left to track at that point.”

Everybody got that? You’re gonna have to choose between wearing a mask or sunglasses while driving.

One Early Access person in HI will get a BlueCruise push on September 30, at about 9:00 PM local time, thus allowing Ford to meet their 3Q2021 commitment. It will only have the HI BlueCruise map initially, so the owner shouldn’t plan an immediate road trip to Disney World on BlueCruise ?

You do realize that you have to be prepared to resume control of the vehicle at any time? I’m not sure how anyone would be able to do that with a regular-sized American hamburger, let alone a “big” one. Additionally, I wouldn’t want all of the grease, sauces and other miscellaneous goop dripping all over the interior of my car ?
