Hey Gang - I just posted on the recall thread, asking for further discussion of not being able to purchase vs. not being able to take delivery. Does anyone know why they couldn’t let us buy the car if they actually have it there at the dealership, and as long as it doesn’t leave the lot until after the fix?

Mine should be to the dealer within the next 1-2 days and so I want to be prepared to make the pitch. (And I already know that my E is part of the recall.) Thanks.

Mine is held up with the recall also. The dealer contacted me said I could buy it this year and they would hold it until it is repaired. I'm going in on Thursday to figure out if that's even allowed to happen.
Please let us know how that goes - it helps to know that some folks have already been successful doing that.

https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2021/12/20/2022-mach-e-seatbelt-tax-refund/8967395002/ That is an article from the Detroit Free Press. It has some good info in it.
I asked my dealership and they told me I could not buy it and they did specify the fine. NOW...my car is still sitting in MO. But my delivery window is now till the 26th. That date has never changed. They told me I could come see it, but that's it. I do not know why some are able to buy and others not. Lope hole somewhere some dealers know about????

Thanks - That story also made the front page of the Minneapolis paper’s business section today - not good press for FMC!

But the article also blurs the distinction - one line says dealers cannot report as sold but the next says the penalty applies if the vehicle is delivered. They’re not the same in this situation, right?

$21,000 penalty risk
Dealers cannot report these vehicles sold until the work has been completed.

If a vehicle is delivered to a buyer or lessee unrepaired, the dealer could face civil penalties of up to $21,000 per vehicle, Ford included in its letter.

A small word salad there...but I think the important words here are "reported sold" and "delivered", oh and "risk". It clearly stated that they cannot "report sold" so if they sell them they don't report it?? Or as Steve said above some are willing to take that "risk". And it has been very clear through all the info that they cannot let them go until the work is done. One situation can take place really with out the other. So take it for what you can. I guess if your dealer lets you buy it and you feel comfortable with it go for it. At least you know you own it and they can't do any funny stuff with it. I was reading one person who has a recall on their MME went to go look at it and they had it on the showroom floor with a sold sign in it....not sure how I would feel about seeing that. Keep us informed on how it works out.

I was the one who went in and it had a sold sign. They also had a not for sale sign on it as well. The though process is to keep people out of it while I wait.

They’ve offered to sell it to me but not let me take delivery. I’m going in Thursday to talk about and see if it is really a viable option.

I think the dual “sold / not sold” signs are an apt metaphor for our current state of limbo….

Like I have said, this would freak me out a bit! How about a do not touch sign also?? Let us know how it goes Thursday. Good luck!

I hesitate to post anything else with the mood of the thread around the unfortunate recall. I’m glad I bought that day—I had actually discussed picking it up a day later with my wife. Nothing but good things to say about the Ford Store San Leandro. Sold to me at ordered MSRP and were quite friendly and helpful. The finance manager had actually just bought a mach e a week earlier and was quite excited to talk about it and shared his favorite things about the car. My personal favorite so far is just the puddle lights when they decide to make an appearance. I’m loving the space white so far and the drive quality is quite commanding. Good luck to those out there still waiting, the wait is worth it.

So it’s not just me. Is there any rhyme or reason to when the puddle lights come on??

I feel like they’re trying to be accommodating considering the circumstances. If the damn thing came in a day earlier, I’d have it now.

Am I the only one that saw Zerocentz’ MME “running” in a closed garage and thought that was dangerous? ? Whenever I actually get my sale-stopped MME, this whole absence of CO and other gases will take some getting used to…

For anyone waiting on the Union Pacific Railcar(s) - Update earlier was PORTOLA ----- CALIFORNIA! at 1:52 today with the ETA staying at 12/24. Convoluted path of about 250 miles remains to Benicia - perhaps it will beat the upcoming storm with heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada Range. Edit for another update - I have always wanted to ride a train in the feather river canyon - my MME gets the tour. It has passed through the Keddie Wye 5:42 PM)and Pulga bridges (7:52 PM) and will soon be on the valley floor in Oroville (which is 85 miles south of me) it will go 125 mi further south to the Benicia terminus. Weather/snow is now less of an issue.

My concerned daughter in Minneapolis sent me this-

So in a bit of cruel something-or-other, I got my "finalize your purchase" email from Ford today. And the Ford tracker says that the car is in "final preparation" with the dealer. If not for the recall notice I'd probably be bouncing off the walls in anticipation right now. ?
