Based on your location, I think you're bringing in regional issues that most people can't help out with. If you're in the US, you can go in for the Customer Satisfaction updates that will get you to 1.7.1 and do the updates to ensure future OTA's work properly.
mines been is for CSP 21P22. That doesn’t help with anything beyond 1.6.0. That only fixes an issue that held some on 1.4.0.

I have suspected my Wi-Fi as well. I know that the signal isn't great if my garage door (metal) is closed, so I was considering turning it off. At one point the car shut off the LTE connection, but that was a one-time thing. Meanwhile, I didn't get around to doing this, and 2.1.0 updated fine. I can't say for sure whether all previous updates came from Wi-Fi or driving around (pretty sure 1.7.1 was driving).

I shut off WiFi last night. I'll turn it back on when we know it is needed and working for other updates.

My MME's update history by connection:
1.4 - Dealer
1.6 - Cell
Unversioned OTA - Cell
1.7 - Cell
2.1.0 - Cell, ISP outage

Every update was after driving the MME away from my home and out of WiFi range. 2.1.0 downloaded one night while my ISP was having an outage so my WiFi had no route to the internet. It had to be cellular or it would not have happened.

Nothing has ever installed and updated via WiFi on my MME.

Same! Mine is always home connected to WiFi, but I was in a fender bender and had it at the body shop and got 1.7.1 lol. Then when 2.1.0 was released, I wasn't getting it and then I went for a drive to a supercharger and it updated while charging. Definitely seems to need a good cellular connection, which I don't have at home or at work since it is a parking garage, and WiFi doesn't do jack, at least not yet.

Imagine the uproar if Apple, or even Google dispersed their system updates in this haphazard manner....
They are software companies though, Ford are an auto company trying to do software. You can’t really compare the two.

I get where you're coming from here. But its not a good comparison.

Phones are one single computer and OS, and the updates are one single package to update the whole phone. The Mach E has 42 separate computers in it that get their own updates.

And I also know that Google doesn't always release their updates to everyone at once. They do them in waves. And sometimes even push one update out to one group, and a different update out to another group, just to test how things work.

Not to mention, Google and Apple didn't just start doing OTA updates in the last year. They've had many years to get their processes down.

I really really like my Mach-E. Even with lots of teething issues, I still give it an A-.

But I don't buy the explanations for the update mess. FORD is a large, well capitalized company. Many, many industries run complex systems that make the interconnected mess of computerized subsystems seem as simple as a 2 by 4! Harvesting a basic understanding of fundimetal best practices would have taken less than a man week of work.

But that's water under the bridge. Let's see how this improves with time.

We all screw up. It's how we respond that counts. I'm sure we all are looking to Ford to learn from their experiences.

To be honest, the first few iPhone operating system (it wasn’t iOS) updates weren’t very smooth. You had to be tethered to your computer via iTunes and it was slow. And they sometimes didn’t work.

But why should we think that not learning from those examples from oh so long ago is acceptable? I mean the lessons learned have been in the public domain for years.

Apple is not perfect. Google is not perfect. Updates are still troublesome for everyone.
