The kick sensor seems to have a mind of its own for some. For us, it works nearly 100% of the time.
Agree. Different cars behave in different ways. I don't think my kick sensor has ever failed to open on the first try (after I started following the recommended foot action method in the owner's manual).

I quite literally cannot make mine fail to function. I walk up, stick my foot underneath somewhere near the center of the car and it opens.
It‘s my opinion that many of the problems stem from PAAK or fob connectivity issues, not the sensor. I use the fob and everything about it always works - walkaway lock, welcome, puddle lights, unlocking, trunk…..
Same here. Everything works with FaaK ( Fob as a Key).

For me, 75% of the time it works 55% of the time.
I literally went under the car and slowly waved my hand to activate the kick sensor. Now I know the sweet spot. As an experiment I waved past the sweet spot and guess what- It works 50% of the time . 10 try's. 5 openings.

Good riddance, I look like a Rockette trying to get my Expedition hatch to open!
You must have really long legs. You have a sister who likes dogs? ??

If Ford canceled the order the dealer actually might not be happy because they could lose that allocation and the car never makes it to the dealership (depending on the timing of things). If it arrives and the buyer doesn't take delivery the dealers are generally happy because they put them on their lot at a markup (which is what I assume you're getting at and you're correct).
Hmm. I thought the dealer gets the car regardless as it was a "accepted" order. The deposit is paid to dealer selected at order time so presumably, if Ford cancelled it -- the dealer would/could say -- no refund to customer vs. If the order is received, they would be happy to refund and as you concur resale it to another customer and presumably an ADM.

Just wait until someone tries to break into your car and smashes the window, then you will notice the difference.

Someone tried to break into my Mach-E late last year and due to the laminated glass, they couldn't through the glass and into the car. Due to this, it meant that I didn't have to deal with a gaping hole where the window would have been and could comfortably drive the car around for the 2-months until my replacement glass arrived from Ford.

If the glass wasn't laminated, it would have shattered all over the place, possibly cutting the seats and causing other damage.

I didn't know that the 2022 models don't have laminated front glass, but that is a major bummer in my mind if I was to buy a 2022 model over a 2021.
You do realize the windows are still automotive safety glass, right? They’re not plate glass where you’d have shards of sharp glass. When safety glass breaks, it’s more prone to “crumble”.

I know that it wouldn't create shards of glass in the same way as a house window or broken cup would but it still would have sharp edges that could cause damage if the window broke and the person climbed or reached around in the car.

Having the window not do that at all due to the laminated glass is still the best scenario.

I hope there's going to be some compensation or a promise to install it at a later date because I use the kick sensor all the time and it was definitely on the order list when I placed my order. I'm just not expecting Ford to do the right thing.

The only problem that I've ever had with it is that it doesn't work all the time to close the trunk. But I usually need it the most just to open the trunk for loading.

Well, on the flip side, if a driver or front passenger of a 2021 with a trim with this glass is ever in some emergency where first responders need to break the glass to reach us, doesn’t improve our odds.

You learn to live without the kick sensor. I turned mine off after the hatch kept opening on its own (I imagine that's why Ford abandoned it, it's kind of broken), and it hasn't done it since. You're better off.

If Ford promises to give you a kick sensor when they have enough chips, will you promise to return the extra battery capacity that your 2022 will have?

Personally, I’d choose the extra range and whatever other invisible improvements have been made with the 2022 model (they don’t advertise better bolts and assemblies), but hey, to each his or her own!

2021 and early 2022 Premiums had acoustic laminated glass front driver and passenger windows. These were removed for later 2022 builds (along with the hands-free lift gate).
No early 2022 models were built with the laminate front glass. Or the liftgate kick sensors.
