Just got an update. They had the car for a week, their initial attempt to update the car failed and ford engineers told them that it’s locked for a week and they can’t attempt the fix again.

Locked for a week? I have no idea what that means, but it sounds made up.

Sadly, it is not. If there are 5 failed attempts within a short period of time the server locks it up. Not an intended feature by any means

And they said it couldn't get any worse. But then this happened. Wow.

Is that for modules or the master reset?

Ended up getting mine back with a new APIM. It's been updated to a recent version, with Notes and Calm Screen installed. Need to dive into it more, but I did set an OTA software update schedule for Tuesdays at noon.

I also suspect it's to prevent hacking attempts (Denial of Service attempt, backdooring, etc). Think of it like a password locked after so many failed attempts.

It has to do with the way the recovery tool was created. It was never intended for anything like this so has come with unintended functions

I wonder if that's what happened to mine --
My car was at the dealership last Friday for this update, and they did use my Amazon-purchased cables/adapters, but sadly, they said they couldn't complete the update because they "kept getting a 403 error".

I think they got locked out for the same reason for doing something wrong.

Sigh. The dealership incompetence is so endlessly frustrating. I would rather buy a $300 adapter and rent FDRS just so that I can do it myself rather than deal with this hassle again, only to have them fail.

Just venting. My next appointment is this Friday at a different dealership to try it again.

Please let me know if it works! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your MME

My car is currently at the dealership and it isn’t taking the update. I don’t know what they are doing wrong. Maybe their FDRS isn’t updated, or whatever.
They opened a ticket with Ford and waiting on a reply.

Dropped off my March, 2021 build Mach-e this morning to my dealership. I gave the Service Manager a copy of this TSB plus the optional Blue Cruise update. He said he didn't think they had the cables. I asked why he didn't tell me that before I showed up? Anyway, it needed the 10K check up and tire rotation so I left it.

I did fill him in on how the update they did successfully last August got blown away when the 1.7.1 OTA update failed (that was the PaaK fix as well as not being able to open the diver side passenger door until the driver's door was opened first).

Lo and behold, an hour later the Service Manager called me and said the cables had come in the day before and they were all set to apply the TSB fixes and install Blue Cruise. He cautioned it would be an all day update. I told him he could have the car for the next 4 business days if needed.

I have a feeling they will be updating me later today telling me they have had issues and have/had calls into Ford for technical assistance. I did say on the phone to make sure their diagnostic software was up to date or it will probably fail.

Time will tell. Update here when I get the car back.

So, after they replaced my APIM, I set an OTA update schedule for Tuesdays. But, on the widget, it doesn't show that I've set a schedule at all. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe there is a delay for Ford to see it.
